Vehicle Detail

Engine number is; K 440814. Frame number; MC 440 392271 I have known this MAICO since it was bought new by a friend of mines wife, as a Christmas present in 1974. The owner had the local welding shop in town, who are good fabricators, modify the frame to 19741/2 G.P. factory specs for the frame. The top shock mounts were moved forward, smaller air box installed. The swingarm has a piece of metal added to the top to strengthen it for long travel suspension. , The modifications are all very sound and to the correct specs. at the time. They way not be the most beautiful mods, but are very sound and racable. The owner rode it for only a couple years. I don't remember him ever racing it. He had other bikes to ride and this one sat mostly. The bike was later sold to my brother in law as a putt around bike. It is low hours and not ridden hard. Never raced. The bike has the original fiberglass fenders, in very good shape. The front fender has a small piece out of it near where it mounts to the tripple clamp, check photo. The rear has only a couple wear marks from the seat and one crack about an inch long under the seat, near the edge of the fender. very minor. The air box has some damage to the front, above the carb boot.a small piece broke out and small cracks. also a small piece broke out at the top rear of the box. overall very good shape. see photo. The small aluminum fuel tank is near perfect. There is one small dent near the front on one side. The original stickers are still on it. All the controls are correct MAGURA. Levers, kill button, compression release lever, throttle and grips are original. It has WHEELSMITH footpegs and exhaust pipe on it. The pipe has one crack about 2" long in the mid section. No dents at all. There has been some welding done on the side stand mount that attaches to the frame, the frame tubing itself has not been welded on. The bike has had the motor mount bolts work loose, and the frame mounts have some wear as does the engine cases where they mount to the frame. The right side case has a piece broken out from the chain wedging between the countershaft and the ignition case, see photo. The rest of the engine is very good. No broken fins on cylinder or head. There is one crack about 1" long on one head fin on top, it looks to have been there a long time. The original piston broke the skirt off and jammed and bent the rod and damaged the sleeve. The cylinder looks to have no damage. I bought a new 82mm sleeve, part no. FL-299, many years ago from L.A. sleeve co. There is a WISCO piston kit also, 82mm. I also have a nice shape, correct rod for the bike. The side cases are in great shape no scratches, or gouges. The ignition cover is also in great shape. I believe all the bolts are there to assemble the engine. The clutch is all there. The clutch basket looks good, one steel clutch plate has some cracks, and the end metal plate has a few small cracks. The trans. gears and shafts look good all very nice. There is minor surface rust on the metal parts on the forks and on the wheels and spokes. The original BING carb is in very nice shape, clean inside. No wear to slide or carb body. The handle bars are from the era. I am not sure of the brand, they have a cool crossbar and are perfectly straight. This bike is to original and complete for me to part out. That would be a shame. I hope some one has the time to put this together the way it was in 1974. A very classic MAICO 440! I reserve the right to end the auction as the bike is for sale locally.. I require a $250.00 deposit within 24 hours by pay pal. The balance to be paid within 7 days. All shipping expenses are the buyers responsibility. I will box the engine parts carefully for your shipper, and help as I can to get the bike to you safely. Thanks and good luck.
