Vehicle Detail
1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - 4 Speed with A/C - NO RUST - California Car History - This is a PHS documented WS-4 Trans Am with a 4 speed and A/C.......it is also the last year for round headlights. I purchased this car in 2005 from the 2nd owner. He purchased the car from the original owner in 1982. The car has been garage kept it's entire life. The car was purchased new at Young Motor Company in Anaconda Montana. As per the 2nd owner......the 1st owner moved to Sacramento California in 1978 bringing the car with them. The car has lived in the sunny dry state of California since. This is a low mile rust free car. This car has NEVER had any rust or rust repairs. Drivetrain - The engine, transmission, suspension and brakes were completely gone through 10,000 miles ago. The car is in excellent mechanical condition. The #'s matching born with 400 engine was completely rebuilt by a professional machine shop. The engine was bored .030 over. An Edelbrock Performer Plus cam was installed as well as an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. The engine still sports the original #'s correct quadrajet 4bbl carb which is 4 speed specific. The original Borg Warner Super T-10 4 speed transmission was rebuilt as well. The correct original Hurst shifter was rebuilt by Hurst at the same time. The suspension including all the bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm...etc have been replaced. The body to sub frame bushings have been replaced as well. The rear end is not original to the car. It is a 10 bolt 3.08 posi with disc brakes....yes the car has 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES. The rear end was taken from a 1980 Turbo Trans Am. The car runs, drives and handles excellent. The 4 speed trans shifts like a new car...... This car is an excellent daily driver and would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. With the 3.08 gears....the car is very highway friendly and always a pleasure to drive. Tires/wheels - The original Honeycomb wheels are in place with 4 almost new 60 series BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. Body - The body is in very good condition. There is no rust....there has NEVER been any rust or rust repairs. The car was painted in the early 90's at a production paint shop and still shows well but does exhibit flaws, chips and touchups. The passenger front fender is out of alignment. This is a 1 repaint car. It has been garage kept....so the paint still shines well. If you are looking for a show car I would recommend a repaint....... The paint is still very presentable for a driver and Friday/Saturday night cruise-ins. The shaker scoop has not been cut.....which is very unusual and hard to find. The doors open and close like new. They do not drop or sag.......you do NOT have to slam them. The windows are nice and tight and seal well. The weather stripping is in excellent original condition. This is a very nice Trans Am and extremely hard to find in this condition. Interior - The interior is in excellent original condition as the car has been garage kept and taken care of its entire life. The original seats are in excellent condition and do NOT have any rips or tears whatsoever. The carpet and headliner have been recently replaced. The dash is not sun cracked but does have some minor cracking down low....looks like someones knee bumped it. The console is in excellent condition....the lid opens and closes as it should. All the gauges work properly....and features the original 8,000 rpm tach. A 160mph speedometer out of a '73 T/A was added in place of the original 100mph unit. The tilt wheel still sports the original Formula wheel that is in very nice shape. The AIR CONDITIONING is all there...hooked up...charged and retrofitted to 134A but does not turn on....it must be a switch. All of the lights and turn signals work as they should. The car features an early 90's Pioneer Supertuner stereo that works great and is installed in the uncut dash. Summary - This is not your typical beat and trashed on T/A.... This car has been garage kept and respected its entire life and it shows. I hate to part with this car... It's a very nice car and I think someone would be hard pressed to find a better one for the $$$$$ I'm looking to get. I've owned it for 8 years and put a lot into it....but have recently purchased a new Dodge Challenger and don't have the garage space(I have 3 other classic cars)........winters coming...... the Challenger needs a spot in the garage....and the Trans Am is just way too nice to leave outside.....so....sadly....its time for it to find a new home.
