About the Porsche 914: The Porsche 914, more correctly called the VW-Porsche 914 in models prior to 1972, uses the well tried VW air-cooled flat-four engine originally used on the Type 3 models mounted ahead of a 5 speed transmission unit. Porsche 914 provides an exceptional road-holding and manoeuvrability due to the excellent weight distribution--quite simply it hugs the road, is undaunted by road imperfections, and drives like a race car. The car is comfortable, roomy, and well equipped two-seater providing good, if not outstanding, performance. The integral body/frame carries single wishbone front suspension with torsion bars and shock absorber struts at the front, and semi-trailing arms and spring/shock absorber struts at the rear. Stearing is by menas of a rack-and-pinon steering gear thru tie-rods and balljoints to the front hub steering knuckles. Dual circuit disc brakes are used on all four wheels, with the parking brake operating thru a cable and linkage to the rear brake pads.
