Vehicle Detail
The Jeep has been in my family since the late '40's at which time my great grandfather purchased the Jeep from the U.S. government. At the time the Jeep was purchased for use in the family construction business. Presumably, sometime in the '50's, the Jeep was painted Bell System green to match the color of the rest of the fleet. My father remembers driving the Jeep to high school in the late '50's and as far as I know that was the last time the Jeep had been run up until about 2005. In or about 2005 I met a guy by the name of Russ Jones. Russ came up to my place to pick up a few transfer cases and such and spotted the Jeep which was stored inside the back warehouse. Russ, being a big collector and restorer of military vehicles and the like, rushed over to check out the Jeep. He asked me what the story was. I told him that it had been sitting right there since the late '50's or so and that I would be moving everything out in the coming year or so. I asked him what it would be worth as I was anxious to get rid of a bunch of stuff. He looked it over and gave me a quick estimate and then proceeded to check it over a little more closely. As he continued to inspect everything he kept increasing his estimate until he ultimately said "whatever you do don't sell this Jeep". "This is one of the nicest original WW11 Jeeps I have ever seen". So right then and there I let old Russ Jones talk me into keeping something that I couldn't wait to get rid of. I'll get off track to say that Russ was one heck of a good guy and I enjoyed numerous trips to his museum. Anyway Russ goes on to say that the kids will love it, you can drive in parades etc.. Shoot after that spiel I was almost excited about it! He was quite the salesman! I had given Russ a bunch of old military parts and what not and he said for me to haul the Jeep down to his place and he would be happy to get it running for me. I said that's great I'll bring her down. I was in no hurry since she had been resting for close to 50 years anyway. Well after a couple of years or so Russ finally called for me to come down and pick it up. I brought it home and was ready to run the kids all over town for ice cream and what not. I quickly discovered that it had a gas leak and one of the brakes was hanging up. I called Russ and he said to bring it back down and he would make it right. Russ initially told me that he wouldn't do anymore than he had to in order to keep it as original as possible. I said whatever, you're the Jeep guy. Anyway I never got a chance to take it back down to Russ and have come to the conclusion that the floor space beneath the Jeep is more important to me than the Jeep itself. It is now sitting in my garage where it has been for the last 5 or 6 years. In a way I hate to get rid of it since it has been in my family for so long but I'm afraid that if I don't start clearing some things out my wife will get me on an episode of Hoarders! I'm not a Jeep guy and I'm sure I won't be giving you near enough information so feel free to email me and I will try my best to answer any questions. I have some paperwork laying around from Russ somewhere, as far as what all he had to do but I do know that he replaced the radiator, the canvas and repainted it. I also have a copy from an old title, from I believe the 50's, when my grandfather purchased it from my great grandfather as well as some repair receipts from the 50's. Shoot me your email if you want me to send copies of this once I dig it up. The Jeep has 15,273 original miles. I know it's a big deal but the data plates are gone and won't be found. It is what it is. I would guess that they might have been taken of in the 50's when it was painted. Who knows! The only significant rust damage I see is on the drivers side toward the front. The Jeep currently runs with the choke out but the carburetor will probably need rebuilt. Obviously many of the parts are original and I tried to capture that. If you need additional photos just let me know what you would like to see and I will get those to you. The engine s.n. is 586956 The frame s.n. is 435852 Send email for additional pictures For payment I will need a $1000 Paypal payment to hold it. Final payment can be made at time of pickup or discussed later. Well, I'm getting tired of this project and am sure that I forgot many things. Please feel free to shoot me an email and I will do my best to answer any questions in a timely manner. Thank you.
