Vehicle Detail

If you are looking for a classic, collectible sports utility vehicle to put in your stable, you’d be hard pressed to find a better vehicle than the Grand Wagoneer. This body style was in constant production for 29 years – a world record, I believe. The lines on the hood are hard to mistake -- like a snarling rhino. The roof rack and grooves in the roof panel are other timeless design elements that they just nailed. It’s no wonder they stuck with it for so long. Is this what Fiat wanted when they purchased Chrysler? Impossible to say, but with rumors of a new Grand Wagoneer surfacing, it’s hard to imagine vehicle that better captures American spirit than this wrangling Woody. This is the last iteration of the series (1989-91). Color is certainly in the eye of the beholder, but this combination of Baltic blue exterior and tan interior, serves the vehicle very, very well. The aluminum wheels with color offsets and center caps are stunning. Anyone who has researched this vehicle understands their ascendance in the collector vehicle market. This one will qualify for antique tags in many states this year (yep, it’s 25 years young). You would also know the huge gap between one that has been cared for and even restored and those that were ridden hard and left to pasture. Fortunately, this is in the former group. This Woody spent a significant portion of its life in the hands of a collector. It’s reassuring to know he had the means to treat it well and when it came time to restore, the means to do it correctly. The transmission and engine were rebuilt. The paint job went all the way down to the frame which received powder coating. I don’t believe it was a full frame off, but it was done with the intention of restoring a well preserved vehicle to high standards. This was about 5 years and 15k miles ago. This is by no means a show car. The paint is very solid, but not show quality. There are some chips in the paint from recent use. The seats are in excellent shape, but if you look closely, they have fine cracks that are evidence of their age and originality. The carpets are in really good shape. It pulls like a tank and rides very nicely. Push the wing windows in and head towards the sunset. It does need a shift indicator needle and a motor for the tailgate window. The shift indicator slides in behind the bezel. It’s evidently a very easy job. All power windows are working, but the tailgate was intermittent until just recently. It is now very unreliable and should be replaced. The part is about $100-150. It is a challenge to install because the motor rests behind the regulator. A mechanic I know and trust said it would cost about $300 installed. I have factored this into the reserve price, which I will keep in confidence out of respect for the bidding process. This was the luxury SUV of its day. The level of detail is startling. All power options work and are original – even the tape deck! The seats in the front are a dream. A/C was converted to R134 in the late 90's and works fine. The power windows in the back are slow when fully down, but rise just fine. I think there is one dome light out in the center light console. Fog lights, and all other lights work just fine. Please feel free to call or text me with questions. The truck is here in Kansas City and I certainly invite you to take a look if you can. Good luck bidding! Rhody (816) 786-7534
