Vehicle Detail
THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION – SOMEONE IS GOING TO OWN THIS AWESOME TRUCK! Here you have a 1963 UK RHD 5 door Safari Roof Land Rover, very unique and a great truck to roll around town in - or take a whole soccer team to a game! Bucket seating is nice and comfortable up front, all the other seats are in “as new” condition, incl the rear benches, the interior is unlike any comparable Land Rover out there – very nice!! With A/C this truck is ready for a unique beach life ;) – have something different on the beaches to be seen in!!! Safari roof plus AC and tinted windows will keep it nice and cool. The previous owners (not sure who) had the frame Waxoyled and it is peeling, but most of the frame is painted black and looks great – see the pictures. A great example of a well sorted Series 2a. This is a RHD (Right Hand Drive) 1963 truck, so yes over a ½ century old – don’t expect a trailer queen for shows. The paint job looks good from a far (consider it a 10ft paint job – looks great from 10ft :)), the window tinting looks good too, but the rear door is wrinkling. All doors are in good/great shape with no/minimal rust issues with the frame. The RH front door is the worst looking one, I think someone repaired it (badly) with bondo…you could re-skin the door, replace it or rebondo it better than what it is. Here is a list of the items it has: - Carpeting throughout on all floors - Bucket seats in the front - Remainder of seats are the ones you would expect to see – all three rear seats fold independently and are like new - Seat belts all round, except the rear cargo bench seats – Front seats are the retractable kind - Tuffy box mounted in the middle (not fixed) - has a tray under the hatch for safekeeping of stuff?? - Alpine CD/Radio with remote on steering column (not working) – I have an original Land Rover radio that will fit in the Tuffy box that will go with truck - Interior has been “blacked out” – not sure why the previous owner liked it but the entire interior is black, with the black vinyl padding around the roofline, black seats, black carpeting and black paint. The headliner is white with black trim. - Pierce manifold with Weber carb- A brand new in the box Master Cylinder plus all flexible brake hosing will go with the truck HISTORY: Here is what I know, all second hand knowledge from the owner I bought it from. I bought it from a guy in Virginia who used it as a weekender ride, fun thing with the kids; he parked it in about 2006 or so and didn’t use it for a few years. When he went to use it he couldn’t start it, so he didn’t bother with it and so in 2012 I came across it and offered to buy it from him. He originally bought it from a guy, who got it from the original importer – as far as I can tell it was imported some time in the late 80’s. The original importer was a rich guy in Miami who wanted to have something unique, and fun to ride around in. He had the vehicle completely overhauled/restored and painted, and added all the interior refinements, carpeting, bucket seats and Air Conditioning – yes A/C in a Series 2a Land Rover!!! It came to me with an Alpine radio/CD player that has a remote mounted on the steering wheel column…the radio doesn’t work (don’t know why) and I have not trouble shot it. There are 4 Boston Acoustic speakers mounted in the truck…the wiring is all hidden in the headliner. The headliner is in great shape, it is some hard plastic kind of stuff – I have never seen anything like it. The air conditioning doesn’t work – all the pluming is there, the hoses are all in good shape – the compressor turns with the engine, looks like it should work but I have not trouble shot it. I have not taken the truck offroad, the previous owner didn’t and apparently it was only used around the streets of Miami for 10 years…the tires are in great shape, with lots of tread – they are Cooper Discovery series used for nice quite road noise. I bought it with the desire to restore it and use in NC at my beach house – now plans have changed and I am not going to do that, so I would like it to go to someone who would use it and drive it as-is or do a complete restoration on it. GOOD: · The interior is awesome – it really is that nice – with the carpeting and the deluxe trim and acoustic matting in the doors it really cuts down on the noise. The window tinting does a great job of keeping it cool. · All four door frames are in great shape, having been painted and treated at some point they look great – and are original to the era with the correct middle doors. · The frame was/is waxoyled and the rear cross member is in great shape, with only some surface discoloring – could paint it, and it would be perfect · The checker plating looks great – I suspect this was added when it underwent restoration, and still looks good on the truck · Engine fires up immediately and runs like a sewing machine (very quite and steady) · All footwells and tunnel panels have been repaired properly with correct panel replacements · Has a holly carb and Pierce manifold NOT SO GOOD: · One wiper is not working, they are pretty easy to rebuild from the research I have done – but I wont get around to it · The brakes require work – I have a brand new Master Cylinder plus all flexible brake lines to redo them – brakes work, but they are not good · The wheels have some rust on them, could be sanded down treated and painted · There is a hole in the firewall on the passenger side, under the dash – doesn’t get water or anything in as it is behind the engine · The paint job is not the best…it is OK but if I was to keep the truck and do a restoration on it I would sand it down to bare metal. I think one of the times it must have been painted and too much paint was used – it is starting to crack in those areas. · At some point one of the previous owners bondoed? The front left fender by the looks of it, as you can see in the picture of the close up you can see the crack – easily fixed Ask any questions up front. I can take more pictures of anything you want.
