Vehicle Detail
Extremely original (other than paint), great running, complete, well-preserved 1967 Forest Service surplus International Harvester 1200 All-Wheel-Drive (it says so on the fender - see pics), 3/4 ton, long bed pickup truck. Forest Service IH's were special-ordered with heavy duty goodies you couldn't get otherwise. That's what makes them so special. This one has a PTO unit installed (see actuator knob on transmission tunnel), beefy skid plates below the transfer case and PTO unit, and an extra vacuum canister (for additional braking power) mounted to the left frame rail. I'm sure it has even more Forest Service upgrades that I'm not aware of. The exterior of the body is solid, complete, and in overall good shape. I can't see any sign of previous accident history and I've been everywhere underneath it (see pics). It has special-order, heavy-duty, diamond-plate, Forest Service bumpers front and rear... obviously bent from use, etc. At least they give you a pattern to use if you wanted to build new ones. Sometime in the past, it was resprayed gold over the original Forest Service green (but only on the outside). Rust is typical IH stuff - cab corners (not much), front fenders (also not much), and grill base (too much - but very common for this body style). It has all been treated so it won't spread. All glass is in excellent shape. Doors open and close solidly. Other than the floorboards, the interior is wonderful (see pics). IH used very water-retentive insulation below the rubber mat so they would rust from the inside out when the insulation got and stayed wet. That's what happened with this one. Fortunately, all you are dealing with is easily repairable flat panels. I drive it this way in my desert community and call it air conditioning. It has also been treated so it won't spread. And I still have the original rubber mat. Seat is original with a cover over it. Dash cover is cracked from the sun but the dash itself is beautiful with no cutting or butchery of any kind. All buttons, knobs, switches, levers, and dash lights work. Most gauges work including speedometer and odometer. Blinkers work but headlights do not. The running gear is where this IH really shines. It's got low miles and is built like a tank with a divorced transfer case and Dana 60 rear diff and Dana 44 front diff. Locking hubs and all transfer case selections work great. 304cid IH V8 starts right up and runs great. Carb is freshly rebuilt and oil just changed. 4 speed manual transmission (Borg-Warner T-98 I think) shifts great with good synchro's and a strong clutch. Gas tank has been removed and should be cleaned prior to re-installation. It has a Purolator electric fuel pump that feeds from a gas can for now. Brakes need work (leaky wheel cylinder and vacuum boost unit (the easy to replace one on the firewall)). Tires are old so I haven't driven it very fast but fix the brakes and you will have a great driver. My neighborhood excursions have shown me this beast is mechanically excellent. This is a really cool vintage IH. I'm sad to see it go but I have a buddy thinning his collection. I'm selling this one with a Bill of Sale only because that is all I have. It should be very easy to get a title and vintage license plates. Please contact me for details. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. And I have tons of extra pics that show every nook and cranny. Please send me an email address and I will get them to you promptly. This truck is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, UT (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest.
