Vehicle Detail
Beautiful, barn-find, time-warp, museum-piece, stock, original (down to the paint), complete, great running example of a 1967 International Harvester 1100 Travelette crew-cab, half-ton, short-bed, two wheel drive pickup truck that was last licensed in 1988. This beauty is totally as it came from the factory (with EVERY option available) other than the stock rims and front bumper (from a later model). Rust is very minimal and confined exclusively to the grill base and lower rear area of the front fenders... very typical for an International, even in our dry, desert climate, and easily fixable (see pics - cab is perfect). To enter the interior is like going back in time. Doors still shut with rock-solid firmness. Internationals just seemed to be built to a higher quality standard than their competitors. There are no mods or upgrades of any kind. Dash, buttons, knobs, switches, etc. are all there with no cutting or butchery whatsoever. The original AM radio works and would probably get radio stations if the antenna was hooked up. Dash pad is cracked but I have an excellent replacement available separately. Seats, door panels, headliner, and sun visors all have original upholstery (drivers seat has a cover over it). All flat glass is good but windshield has a crack and some rock chips. Door windows roll up and down properly. Floor boards are wonderful. I removed the carpet and have tons of extra pics that show in detail it's near perfection. And I still have the old carpet (very worn) for use as a sample. Even the dome light still works. The exterior still has the original paint and all the trim and they have aged extremely well. The mirrors are vintage stainless steel and chrome Coronado's with their logo on them. And I can't find any sign of accident history anywhere. The undercarriage is also in excellent shape. I pressure washed the heck out of it and it's rust-free (see pics). The base of the tailgate has some rust but I have a straight one available separately. The rust on the fender base is isolated and very easily repairable. A stock front bumper would hide much of the rusted lower portion of the grill. These are common areas that rust on most IH's regardless of climate because the design allows moisture to be trapped inside. Also, available separately, I have 4 period correct Kelsey-Hayes steel rims and one original Kelsey-Hayes IH steel rim to use as a spare. The 4 are from an older Ford truck but they share a common bolt pattern and are virtually identical (other than build code) to the IH version. Mechanically, she runs and drives great, even on bias-ply tires. Engine is a 2bbl Holley IH 304cid V8 with a dual Cherry Bomb style exhaust system. Automatic transmission is a Borg-Warner 3 speed on the column. Differential is a Dana 44. Fluids are all fresh. Like everything else, the running gear is stock and original. Power steering is a big-rig style "ram" unit (that's how they came from the factory... did I say overbuilt?) that leaks. Right now, the fan belt is unhooked from the pump so it drives like any manual steering car (very easily actually; I drive around the 'hood with no problem). Air conditioning is also unhooked but the AC fan in the cab works properly. I have been told it will work with a recharge. Power brakes work great. Gauges work (other than temp) as do wipers, headlights, blinkers, emergency flashers, heater fan, and cigarette lighter (!). Both gas tanks work (and gauge as well; switch is under dash) but passenger side has a locking gas cap and I can't find the key. Travelette's themselves are rare enough, but to find a half-ton, short-bed example (especially in this condition) is a very needle in the haystack opportunity. Everywhere I search, all I find are 3/4 ton long-beds. Just something to think about. And I sure hope it ends up in the hands of someone who prizes it's originality. It would be a shame to modify something with such wonderful patina. Trucks can be restored over and over but they are only original once. Just my two cents. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer all your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have a ton of extra pictures that show every nook and cranny. Please send me an email address and I will get them to you. This beautiful IH is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, UT (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Good luck and good bidding.
