NEEDS MOTOR Car has 140 thousand miles and there's metal flakes in the oil, hard knocking and oil inside the tailpipe. Tow truck driver said, "dang, that's a shame; that's a really nice looking car" Volvo Dealer wants $6700 out the door including free two week loaner for a lifetime guaranteed motor. We can't afford it although the least expensive V50 we've found on Craigslist is $8500 so if you were already looking and want to swap the motor, it's a possibility. If you have a garage and are able to swap the motor you could save thousands. The most expensive motors are $2500 on eBay and the least expensive way to do this would be to buy a 5 cylinder Volvo engine that was in an accident from an insurance auction or your local junkyard. In New England these motors are common. I've seen these motors as inexpensive as $600. Should be a two day, 16 hour, job. Recent IPD sway bar and Bilstein HD suspension all around. Later wide-spaced, V O L V O liftgate emblem. Recent timing belt and water pump. Transmission shifts smoothly and had a fluid change recently. Comes with file folder of service records. Includes two keys. The second key cost me nearly $400. The key is so expensive because the encryption key between the key and car is only also stored in Gothenberg Sweden.
