Vehicle Detail
Please note: This car is not currently registered and may not meet emission requirements in your location. 1985 Mustang GT 'Cobra' Okay, Ford didn't do a snake in 1985. I call it that because the mods are what Ford would have done in a 1985 Cobra, and because the motor has cool-looking 'Cobra' valve covers. Based on a GT, this is a stock-appearing street car that easily could be morphed into a track, autocross, or drift car. This isn't a "buy a bunch of cool parts and bolt them together" type of build. It was carefully thought out and executed. Notable features include: Chassis Shock tower brace Griggs Racing tubular subframe (stiffer and saves 70+ lbs) Frame braces Drivetrain Don Dixon-built 5.0L engine (see below) lightened flywheel (19 lbs) Centerforce clutch SVO 'World Class' T5 transmission aluminum prop shaft with loop 8.8" rear end with 3.55 gear set Suspension Hotchkiss shock tower plates Adjustable coil-overs on the Griggs subframe Tubular rear links Poly bushings all around Panhard rod (not installed) Momo Quasar alloy wheels Brakes Large late-model brakes by Hal Baer (now of Baer Brakes) Misc. aero headlight farings sunroof (not T-tops!) 140 mph speedometer tachometer head Available spares New OEM nose cone stock carb and a 650 double pumper 3.27 ratio gear set brake cooling ducts, driving lamps, bra, tail lamp assy many parts The engine: the engine is fresh - about 400 miles on it 302 HO block bored +0.030 Boss 302 "long-throw" rods fully balanced rotating assembly SVO bottom girdle Canton 7 qt 'road racing' oil pan all ARP hardware, top and bottom FluiDampr crank balancer March undersize chrome pulleys triple roller timing chain SVO 'B' cam, hydraulic lifters Lunati roller rockers Edelbrock aluminum heads Sodium-filled valves w/ triple-cut seats Weiand Stealth aluminum intake manifold the heads and manifold were ported and flowed by Buddy Jentzen (an old school Nascar-level pro) MSD electronic ignition, rev limiter Bassani equal-length long-tube headers in ceramic coated stainless steel Ford SVO mini-starter Stewart 3-core aluminum radiator there is over $10,000 in the engine bay alone We haven't dyno'd it, but we estimate that the engine is producing upward of 450 bhp. Other stuff: A/C is fitted, but not currently charged bespoke exhaust through Flowmaster mufflers no cats or smog pump The interior is stock except floor mats, shift knob, radio delete, fresh head liiner. There are a few issues. The nose cone is cracked and needs replacing; I include a brand new one. The Griggs subframe moves the front wheels forward for better geometry making the tires rub on the stock body work. When replacing the nose cone, the front of the fender (part of the nose cone) should be flared. There is a partial fix in place. Windshield is cracked and should be replaced. The car has never been wrecked* or repainted. I have owned it since 1987. *Note: I just noticed the "moderate accident" on the Vehicle History Report. It was anything but - a dent so minor I never bothered to get it fixed. I'll see if I can get a picture for you. Feel free to contact me with questions.
