Vehicle Detail

A very original classic 1976 Honda CB550F Super Sport (not the basic CB550). Honda CB family of bikes created and defined the “superbike” category. Factory original Flake Sapphire Blue with original dark brown seat and original light green instrument faces. One (professional – executive) owner bike with only 3,669 miles. Original instruction manual, tool kit and 2 Honda keys. After so many of those bikes have been restored or modified with various parts it’s nice to find something original (even the same key opens all locks – often locks don’t match as people replace them). Great looks similar to that of CB750 but the bike is lighter/easier to ride. Purchased in 1976 from Lowell Honda dealership in Massachusetts, moved to Florida, where it was last registered and driven up to about Sep 1984. From there it was moved to San Jose, California and stored in a dry, dark garage up to now. Shaded/northern exposure of the garage, mild climate and dry California weather made those ~30 years of storage as close to a climate controlled storage as possible anywhere. So practically no rust visible. Chrome is in excellent condition (no need to even polish it – just wash), except some surface blemishes on exhaust pipes near the engine. Original paint is ok but has some surface markings/light scratches. Engine rotates freely (light oil was sprayed inside combustion chambers before turning it for the first time), bike rolls smoothly, rear brake works, clutch works, gearbox shifts fine, frame/wheels/spokes/chain/lights etc all look great. Tires have make/model/size as specified in the manual for the new bike, appear to be in a very good condition, but age and roadworthiness are unknown. Aftermarket back rest and engine protection bars are left on the bike but mostly for transport protection, probably should be removed for a clean look (and the back rest obstructs opening of the seat). A great candidate for a show/museum quality restoration or use as-is after getting the bike running. Would be a waste of originality to do a café racer conversion, but if you are the winning buyer, it’s up to you. Now the bad stuff – unfortunately the bike was stored with fuel in the tank, so the tank is all rusty inside and all the fuel lines/carburetors are gummed up and need cleaning. The rust caused a pin holes in the tank side (near the emblem), with some fuel leaking out and marking the outside – see picture. Needs to be treated with one of the gas tank sealant kits (which treat rust and seal the tank from the inside). Also needs hydraulics of front brake fixed and a new battery. Bottom corner of the left side plastic cover is broken. Comes with a bill of sale only (no title, ebay forces putting of a title so it says "rebuildable"). Serial number CB550F-2005796, not showing up in DMV records (in FL already archived and not in a computer). In California you just need to bring the bill of sale, the bike and around $80 to the DMV to get the title/registration. So registration should be simple and without any back fees but please check with your DMV to make sure. No reserve. Bike has just been moved to a storage in Los Angeles (Carson CA 90745) from where it can be picked up or shipped. I will also provide to the winning bidder (for free) shop/service etc manuals in pdf form. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
