Vehicle Detail

This is a "true surivor" 1957 Chevrolet "210" station wagon. It was recently removed from a barn in Bisbee, Arizona where it had been stored since the 1980s. This car has been in dry Arizona since new, and its India Ivory over Colonial Cream paint is 100% original. Naturally, there is moderate and appropriate patina to this GM Magic Mirror Acrylic Laquer finish with areas of factory primer now visible after 56 years. The body is rock solid and very straight overall. The only damage as seen in photos is limited to the creases in the lower rear quarter panels and right rear door. The inner and outer rockers are straight and solid. The floor braces and body mount perches are fine. The passenger side floor pans will need some work. The driver's side front pan has one silver dollar size hole. The interior is original, usable, but somewhat crispy with age. The car is equipped with EZ-eye tinted glass and the rare factory padded dash with factory radio delete plate. The tailgate and surrounding panels, spare tire well, and cargo floors are excellent. Tailgate hinges, gate aperature, upper and lower gates, chrome slides and glass are very nice. A new "T" handle with lock and keys make the gate operate perfectly. This '57 Chevy retains its original 283 V-8 and it has been rebuilt to include upgraded 1967 "291 fuelie" heads and a quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor. Just installed are a new distributor, chrome valve covers, Edelbrock air cleaner, 1-wire Delco alternator, fuel pump, ignition wires, hoses, belt, and spark plugs. The engine is very strong and runs through custom headers and a low restriction dual exhaust to give a nice sound. The original Powerglide automatic transmission was removed at sometime prior, and this wagon was converted to a later 3-speed all syncro manual transmission and shifts with a period Fenton floor shifter. I recently installed new rear brake wheel cylinders, new rear brake linings, 4 rubber brake hoses, new master brake cylinder and 4 new radial tires. The wheels are Cragar SS. This is a running "get in and go" wagon with a great Arizona patina. There is nothing to hide, just a good running, and good driving piece of Chevrolet history. A great wagon foundation for conservative mostly stock upgrade restoration beyond here, or an all- out high dollar resto-mod. Call me with any questions. The car is for sale locally, and I reserve the option of terminating this auction should a sale occur. 623-826-5221 On Jun-18-13 at 17:34:23 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a "true survivor" 1957 Chevrolet "210" station wagon. I am also including a pair of brand new front door window glasses to be installed by the purchaser. Available at extra cost above the purchase price is a 1960s Borg Warner T-10 4-speed with a Hurst shifter. I was going to install these for even more fun with this car. On Jun-21-13 at 17:44:35 PDT, seller added the following information: What a plesant surprise today!!! On my way home from Pete Ciadella Interiors shop in Tempe, I received a phone inquiry about this car from a fellow "Ernie" who viewed this auction and lives less than two miles from me. He asked if he could see the car and we agreed to meet. Immediately upon seeing the car, "Ernie" identified himself as its owner 41 years ago. He graduated from high school in Sierra Vista, AZ in 1972 and produced photographs of this car taken when he owned it. He said he immediately knew it was his when he read about the "creases in the lower rear quarter panels". During our great conversation, he relived his good times and experiences with the car and marveled at its preservation and present condition. He said the engine in it is a 275 HP 1965 327, and that the headers still on the car are the original S&S tuned headers he installed that were built by Frank Sanders of S&S Headers here in Phoenix. The "HA" suffix stamping on the engine block pad confirms his recollections and corrects my original description as the engine being the original 283. "Ernie" shared many stories and said he would love to have the wagon back, but he has too much going on in his life right now. It was great to visit with him and his lovely wife and have them fill out the history of this nice original AZ car. Behind every great car there is always a great story with great people. What luck meeting them after 41 years and their living back in "Earnie's" native Arizona just two miles from me after living in PA, CA, OR, NY and LA.
