Vehicle Detail

Well, I am finally breaking down and selling my baby. Bought this '93 XFi from a dealership in September 2010. Used it as my work commute vehicle for 6 (glorious) months, then the rear left brake line burst on me and I took it off the road. I had huge plans for it (aero mods, sound proofing, etc etc), but then my wife and I had a kid . . . . . . and now I have unfortunately accepted that I will never get to it. Hopefully another fuel economy guru will take this 42k mile beauty under their wing and love it for many years to come. Don't be dismayed thinking it has been sitting for 2 years, because it hasn't. I keep the battery unhooked throughout the year because I am not driving it daily. But, about a dozen times a year I break it out and take it for a spin down the road to my parents house (using the parking brake). The road is just a basic backroad, but I always take it up to 5th gear to keep everything lubricated. It starts and runs like a dream, no matter what the season. In all honesty, I would trust this thing on a trip to anywhere in the country. I would however not recommend that you drive it home, unless you trust yourself for long distances driving a manual with only a parking brake. On that note though, I have to specify this vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty. All shipping and transportation will be the responsibility of the buyer. Here is a Video where I do a walkthrough of the exterior/interior and start it up so you can hear it run. FUEL ECONOMY Anyone who is looking at this vehicle is probably familiar with what an XFi is known for. If you are not familiar Check This Website. I used this vehicle solely for my commute to work. 95% of this commute is a straight highway run @ 55 mph. I kept Unleaded Plus w/ no ethanol in it most of the time and kept the oil topped up with Mobil 1 fuel economy (the one with the green cap). I babied the accelerator like a grandma, but I got amazing MPG. My average MPG throughout my ownership was just a chip under 60 MPG (59.8). And I maxed out at 65.6 once. Don't take my word for it though, here is a link to my Fuelly.com Log. BACK TO BASICS XFi's were built with one goal in mind, maximize fuel economy . . . so don't expect a fleck of luxury. There is no A/C and no Cruise Control. There is power nothing on this car, manual windows and manual door locks (though they do lock automatically once you pass 15 mph). The aftermarket Stereo/CD does have a remote though. Anyone who has driven a Metro knows that the sound proofing is laughable at best . . . well they put even less on an XFi to save on weight. And with only a 49 HP 3-cylinder, you needed it as light as possible. Luckily, if you are serious about buying an XFi, you are not buying it for looks, luxury, or speed . . . . you are buying it to get MPG's that a Prius can't even shake a stick at. And with only 42k miles on this XFi, you will be doing it for many years. Less than 10% of Geo Metros made during the 5 years they made XFi's, were XFi's. So not only is it very rare to come across an XFi, finding a holy grail like this one with less than 50k miles could end up being a life committment. THE BAD The short rear left brake line (running from main line to wheel hub) will need to be replaced. The brakes are fairly noisy because they haven't been used in so long, so you may want to replace them as well. Scattered rust since it is 20 years old. The only holes are on/under the rocker panels. Wheel alignment toe-in for the front tires is off and causing uneven wear. Should replace front tires. They are the stock 12" tires. The side braces that hold the battery down are gone. I have the top brace and have been driving it like this since I bought it with no issues.THE GOOD Absolutely beautiful interior. Stock Engine/Transmission with only 42k. Runs smooth as silk. Unused spare tire with original jack. Underside has been pretty thoroughly coated with rust proofing. Frame horns are flaking, but solid (this is always a concern when buying used Metros) Paint is great all around. (the pics/video are of this vehicle dry, I did not spray it with water 30 seconds before taking them to trick you as others do.) All lights and wipers are in perfect working order. Original Docs and all 3 Service Manuals are included in the sale (Chilton's, Hayne's and the ~1000+ page Factory Service Manual) 65 MPG!! I mean seriously, that is what you are here for. That is 650 miles on its little 10 gallon tank. Getting this thing insured is pocket change because of it's "estimated" value. We all know the real value of an XFi though.NEW STUFF/HAS BEEN DONE Passenger CV axle was noisy when first purchased, Replaced it. Main fuel/brake lines running from front to back were replaced because the bracket was loose and one of the fuel lines was leaking. Drained Trans and refilled with Pennzoil Synchro. Exhaust, from the manifold back, was replaced. New battery a few months back. Interior door handles replaced with carbon fiber ones (original plastics are almost always wrecked on used Metros). New wiper blades. Aftermarket CD and speakers. When I first purchased it I pulled everything out of the interior (trim, seats, carpet), and gave it a huge once over. Replaced rusted/broken screws/fasteners; also detailed and lubed up everything I could find. I also dropped the gas tank and flushed it out with tank cleaner. Replaced fuel filter while I had it down. INCLUDED EXTRAS 2 additional speakers. New Goodyear Gatorback belt to replace squeeky mcsqueeker belt. New spark plug wires. Misc bulbs, screws, fasteners, etc (see video)I think that is everything. Good Luck to all bidders. The small print. All bids are legally binding. Don't be a deadbeat, only bid what you are willing to pay in full within 10 days. $250 deposit due within 48 hours of auction win. Rest to be paid by Paypal or Money Order within 10 Days. Sold As-Is - No Warranty. Transportation is the BUYER's responsibility. On Jun-01-13 at 22:05:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Some additional notes that I am getting a few questions about: Yes the Factory Service Manual is for a 1994 and this one is a 1993. But there are very few (if any) changes between a 93 XFi and a 94 XFi. They made a lot of huge changes between 1994 and 1995 Geo Metros, but they no longer made XFi's after 1994. The majority of any issues you would have with a 1993 can be found in that manual. You would be hard pressed to find something not covered in there.I invite anyone who is questioning their bid to come check it out for themselves or order up an independent inspection. I will gladly allow anyone to give it a thorough inspection. I would rather you stop with a bid you are confident with, than uncontrollably bid on it blindly. I do not want anyone to be upset for getting caught in the moment and overbidding (believe me I have done it on Ebay several times). I tried my best to highlight all of the cars issues in the video, so I hope you can trust that. But no trust is better than first person experience. I will not let independent inspectors (or bidders) take it on the road (because of the brake issue), but you can drive it up and down my driveway. My driveway is about 1 and a half football fields, and you can easily get the car into 3rd gear. Or you can let me drive it and hear it all the way up to 5th gear on the road. And to triple cover the facts . . . this is the original mileage. It is a stock, untampered, 6 digit odometer reading. Please look at the Autocheck report, it is provided for free by Ebay. It got about 36,800 miles on its first 15 years of life (through 2 owners), then it made the rounds through the dealership auctions. I picked it up in Sept 2010 with 37k and drove it for 5k miles. On Jun-02-13 at 11:49:48 PDT, seller added the following information: Another Quick Update Had some questions for more detail on the Control Arms and Frame Horns, so I drove it up on some ramps and took a photo of each side. As you can see both sides had a healthy coating of thick rust preventative, but it has aged over the past 20 years and has started flaking off in a few areas. The area under the flaking has started to surface rust, but it is solid. You could whack these things with a sledge and it would not break off. If you are at all doubtful, as always, I encourage you to come by or order an independent inspection and give them a knock yourself :-). I have it lifted up on ramps now, so they are easily accessible. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y250/Goatfarmer03/GeoMetroUpdates/AHornDriver.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y250/Goatfarmer03/GeoMetroUpdates/AHornPassenger.jpg
