Vehicle Detail
Beautiful 1990 Westfalia Camper. Extremely clean and reliable. Motor converted to 2005 Subaru 2.5L using all Small Car Performance parts. It’s amazing how much fun it is to drive with almost double the horsepower of the stock motor. Being able to hold speed and pass trucks in the hills….priceless! Van had under 70K miles when I purchased it 4 years ago. I loved the van, but the lack of power was just scary on trips to Colorado, so I had the conversion done at 80K. Check out the link for complete details of the process. http://www.weidefamily.net/vanagon/Files/ConversionParty/JosephBromley/slideshow.html link . This van truly looks great and I can’t count the number of folks that have come up in rest areas/parking lots to ask about the camper and share memories of their own experience with one. The camper is equipped with the following: Automatic Transmission Air Conditioning Power Steering Power Brakes Power Windows Power Adjust Mirrors AM/FM/CD Radio w/ Sirus capable and IPod connection Two Burner Stove Sink Three Way Refrigerator (Propane/110V/12V) I’ve kept the Westfalia in our garage out of the weather and spared no expense to repair/upgrade the camper. When purchased the pop top was faded to a lighter color than the body (common with most of the burgundy vans) so I had the entire camper repainted to the original color. I’ve installed FatMat to Help Eliminate Road Noise Tinted All Windows Replaced Door Gaskets and Window Felt Upgraded to the South African Grill and High Power Headlamps Installed High Voltage Headlamp Relays Installed Secondary Battery and Isolator Relay Added Gas Struts That Will Raise The Pop Top With Little To No Assistance (struts are connected to the back side of the roof rack mounting brackets which distributes the lifting force between the four brackets) Installed Battery Charger for Secondary Battery Installed Power Converter And Wired To Outlet (see photo) Installed Small Car Performance Big Brake Kit On Front (huge improvement on braking) Installed Alarm w/ Remote Door Lock Memory Foam Topper For Lower Bed (very comfortable) Installed Bilsten Shocks Replaced Steering Rack, Upper Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends Replaced Radiator Electric Fan Assembly Replaced Rear CV Boots Replaced Transmission Seal Replaced Water Tank Pump for Sink Installed Scan Gage Added Yakima Cross Bars for MegaWarrior Basket w/ Net and Canoe Rack Purchased Yakima Two Bike Rack For Rear Added South African Mud Flaps Installed Screen For Side Sliding Door Made Set-up for small 110V A/C unit (see pics) Added ignition up-grade and cooling fans to refrigerator (works great and will make ice cubes) Solar shower and privacy hut GasBuddy propane heater The van is in exceptional shape for being 23 years old, but is a ‘driver’ and has some small imperfections from being on the highways. I’ve absolutely enjoyed traveling with this great van on multiple fishing trips from Texas to the Pacific NW and back through the Mountains of Colorado. The power and reliability of the Subaru engine made it a wonderful experience. Now that my wife has retired and joined my travels, we have purchased a 5th wheel toy hauler and it’s time to let my beloved van go to someone else who will love it and use it. The van now has 110K miles on the body, engine has around 90K (had 60K when refreshed and installed in van), lots of maintenance documentation and receipts for all the upgrades. Be sure to check the link that documented the engine conversion process.
