Matching Numbers: 1969 Porsche 2.0 911E Coupe! Values of early Porsche 911 models have really taken off lately, apparently with no end in sight. While purchasing a long hood 911"T" might still be within reach, prices of the fuel injected "E" and "S" models have rocketed into the stratosphere. We've seen "S" models sell for $150K, although the "E", which is bascially an "S" with milder camshafts better suited for street use and almost as rare, with only 1,968 Coupes built for 1969, seems to follow suit. Let's take a closer look. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Starting our inspection with the trunk, we find nothing but healthy sheetmetal here. At some time, a new suspension pan has been installed, which is rather common due to acid leakage from the battery. Trunk carpet should be replaced, as it is very old. Factory jack is included. There is no accident damage to note. Undercarriage looks very honest, with no thick undercoating or spray can artistry to hide anything. Original floors are intact, but the metal is a little thin in spots, as is typical for those late sixties 911s. Possibly due to standing water, the bottom of the "smuggler's box" has rotted away. The rear shock mounts also need replacing. Other than that, it's a dry and straight West Coast example of Porsche's finest. Make sure you extend them to their full size with a mouse click. Having been repainted once, many moons ago, it looks decent but shows a multitude of imperfections upon close inspection. Doors and hoods fit very well; they open and shut as intended. The lower third of the driver's door skin shows some bubbling. It'll be a straightforward job to make everything perfect again. Bright trim and weatherstripping presents itself in good useable condition. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) A set of the iconic light alloy FUCHS wheels is a must have on any early Porsche 911. Here, the factory-installed 5-1/2J x14 wheels present very well and feature radials in the size of 195/70-14. Let's check out the interior next. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The cabin is all original and in good "survivor" condition. Headliner is intact, one sun visor is not mounted but will be included. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Dashboard looks sharp, with none of the usual cracking and warping. This "E" has been garaged for most of its life, and it shows. Note factory steering wheel and original metal I.D. tags on A-pillar. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The iconic VDO gauges are intact and functional (apart from the clock). Check out 6,800rpm redline on the "E"-specific tachometer. 49,479 miles shown on the odometer could be the car's actual mileage, however, there's no supporting documentation. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Original front seats feature black upholstery with the typical basketweave inserts. They are very nicely preserved, indeed. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Rear "seats" come with folding seat backs. Carpeting definitely needs to be replaced, not a big deal. Vinyl on parcel shelf should also be exchanged. Door and side panels are in a very good to excellent state of preservation; the -- usually missing -- map pockets are all accounted for. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) A nice rear end. We love the un-flared, narrow-bodied look of the early 911. Mechanically injected 2-liter models, such as this "E", are highly collectible. Ready to take a look at the engine bay? So are we! Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Apart from the 4-pipe sport exhaust (the original heater boxes are still installed and fully intact), the engine appears to be in a highly original state. It is the factory-installed, matching numbers unit *6292015*, a very important fact for any serious Porsche aficionado. Best of all, it has not been converted to carburetors, as so many others, but retains its famous BOSCH mechanical fuel injection. Note original details like the gold foil decals. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The 140-horse flat six starts willingly, idles well, and runs strong. Brakes work good, and the optional 5-speed Typ 901 transmission shifts through all gears without issues, apart from worn rubber shift bushings, an easy fix. We've driven the car in our neighborhood, however, you might want to perform a good tune up before taking your new "E" out on a long road trip. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Here it is, a complete, running, driving, numbers matching sixty-nine 911E, a rare and desirable 44 year-old Porsche, its collectibility enhanced by its exciting period color. Wanting some metal work and a fresh coat of paint, as well as some general tidying, it has the potential to be a very valuable car, indeed. Opportunities to snap up a genuine 2-liter 911E in any condition hardly ever arise anymore. Here's one that could be picked up for a fraction of the cost of one of the -- often questionably -- "restored" examples, so don't hesitate to bid if you can recognize a true bargain with a huge upside potential.
