Vehicle Detail

Bought this 4 or 5 years ago when the mid-life crisis hit. I really wanted a 1975 model, cuz it was the year I graduated high school, but couldn't find one. Recently I finally found a '75 "Shorty", and bought it. And since that's the one I really wanted, even though I've put a lot of time and money into this, it has become expendable. When I bought this it was a street ready vehicle, meaning it was inspected and registered to legally drive on the streets. It wasn't my main vehicle but I did drive it occasionally. Then it became a "project" vehicle. Here's what's been done since I've had it: I stripped it down to just the body, and then had the complete exterior and interior floor soda-blasted to bare metal.Bare metal epoxy primed immediately by restoration shop.Left front fender replaced with new after-market replacement(had a bad rust spot in it).Restoration shop did preparation and paint job(not a showroom paint job cuz I was gonna use as an everyday driver - used less expensive paint).New windshield and mouldingNew moulding on rear windowsNew moulding on front door windowsNew used vent windows and internal hardware on front doorsNew bumpers from LMC TruckNew tires and wheelsNew turn signal switch, headlight dimmer switch, and ignition switchNew Pioneer stereo and dash speakersNew door weather stripping for all doors included and still needs to be installed(see pic).Wipers work but blades need to be installed(old blades included - I was gonna buy new blades)Fan works if Hooked directly to it, but fan/air conditioning/heat controls not working( I replaced control module with one from salvage yard but still not working. Don't know if A/C works.Speedometer works, but some gauges don't.Headlights, turn signals, running lights, and brake lights work.Has power steering, power brakes, air conditioning.Replaced brake booster and master cylinder 2 or 3 years ago.Replaced Pitman arm 2 or 3 years ago.I've done nothing to the engine since I've had it, but it starts right up(previous owner had replaced the original engine).Sliding side door was badly rusted on the bottom, so was replaced with one from a salvage yard(door slides OK, but rear of door doesn't pop out when handle is pulled, so have to pull the rear of door out by hand). For better towing ability I was gonna put a 350 engine with a 700R4 transmission in it - which I obviously never did. But I did have the rear axle ratio changed from a 3.08 to a 3.73 with all new differential parts. When this was done had to replace the rear axle body with one from a 1993 van, bcuz one axle was bent. Bcuz of this the parking/emergency brake does not work. The parking brake cable hookup on the 1993 axle is different from the 1982 axle. Just need to get the right parts to do the hookup. The different axle ratio also means the speedometer reads about 10 MPH faster than you're actually going. I've tried to mention everything. The van looks nice, as you can see in the pics, but it's NOT a show van. It could still use a little TLC, but it won't take much to get her to pass inspection and road-ready. This van has not been driven on the roads in about 3 years or more, but I do start it up at least every 2 weeks, and drive it around the storage lot. I have had her up to highway speeds a few times on a back road, with no problems. And I haven't seen any fluid leaks. It also starts right up and runs with no problems. BUT, if it were me, I'd definitely do some routine maintenance and tune-up on the engine and brakes to use it on a regular basis. The one thing I can definitely say about this van, is the body is in great shape. I've spent around $10,000 on this van, and most of that has been on the body. I'm not expecting to get anywhere close to $10,000 for this, based on what I'm seeing vans selling for. I need this gone, so I've set the reserve much lower. My loss is your gain. BUT KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A G10, 1/2 TON, 110" WHEELBASE "SHORTY", WITH JUST ABOUT A PERFECT BODY ON IT!!! AND "SHORTY'S" ARE HARD TO FIND!!!!!!!!!!!! On May-14-13 at 13:47:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I decided to risk a cop stopping me for no registration or state inspection, and take the van for a drive on the highway where my storage place is. I only went about 2 or 3 miles, but I did get it up to 75MPH(which is really about 65 MPH with the rear axle ratio changed). I didn't have any problems. BUT, that doesn't mean I guarantee anything on the mechanical side of this van. The bulk of the work on this van since I've owned it has been cosmetic. My plan was to put a fuel injected engine in it - probably a 350 V8. To me I've only done about half of what I would have done if I kept it. But this is the common story of buying a vehicle to fix up, and for what ever reason getting to a point where it's costing to much, or your just tired of messing with it, etc. This van just needs some fresh eyes, and a fresh mind to continue on. My heart was never really into this 100%, bcuz I really wanted a 1975 model which I now have. I've bought several vehicles off Ebay that were half way across the country. So I know what it's like to buy a vehicle that you haven't driven, or touched, or seen up close and personal. So I'm trying to be as honest as I can be about this. People who have seen this van, compliment me on it and mention how rare it is to see a "Shorty". To me the real value in this van is the fact that it is a "Shorty". I've been looking for them for the last 5 years, and I know for a fact they're hard to find - and especially in decent condition. So make sure you understand that yes it is nice looking, and it's a rare "Shorty", but it is not perfect, and mechanically nothing's really been done to it. Thx
