Vehicle Detail

1988 VW Cabriolet Odometer: 135120 Engine: 1.8L CIS Fuel Injection Buy it now and Reserve REDUCED!! Just in time for Spring! Here is a second chance to buy a nicely kept and well cared for Cabriolet. This is a Wolfsburg Limited triple white edition (white paint/white top/white interior). There is NO RUST anywhere on this car. I have owned it since 1998 and it has been garaged up until the last six months. As you can see from the photos the top is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or cracking of any kind. The headliner does have two tears. The original top boot is included. Some of the upgrade features include a slightly lowered suspension and aftermarket wheels and tires (American Racing aluminum rims/Bridgestone Potenza tires). Has a new Flowmaster exhaust system with chrome tip (January '13) that gives it a deep sporty sound. Previous owner was a VW dealer tech who changed the header pipe to the larger "Y style" to reduce backpressure and deliver better performance, so this car has a bit more giddy up than stock and the lowered ride gives great cornering stability (great fun in the Ozark hills). You can see that it has a Formuling wood steering wheel, and a MoMo shift knob. Recent maintenance work done includes All belts and hoses replaced (except timing/drive belt). Inner and outer CV's replaced (Not rebuilt/reconditioned). Cold start valve replaced. Clutch cable replaced. Windows adjusted for better seal against wind noise and moisture (but it still makes noise and still get an occasional drip in heavy rain – it is still a convertible folks). Driver's door lock/latch mechanism reconditioned.New alternator. Some of the known issues are: Will need front disc pads within 10k miles. Steering boots are weathered and need replacing ($45/pair). Trunk lift support shock needs replaced ($20). Fuel Accumulator may need replaced ($160). Fuel tank lock ring seal needs replaced (will include part with sale). Undiagnosed fuel odor: the above lock ring seal may correct this, but other rubber tubing associated with fuel tank may be seeping when tank is full. This is not a drip and I don't believe that it is the tank itself but a replacement tank is $165. Two of the wheels have minor damage from last tire mounting but it does not seem to affect safety and drivability. But the wheels are 15 years old and show their age. Various instrumentation lighting needs replaced ($3/bulb). A/C needs charged, but compressor and rest of system runs. Radio works, CD player does not (it will take your CD and not play it and NOT give it back!), but who in their right mind puts an expensive stereo in a soft top?? Will need some minor fuel system adjustment depending on the elevation where you live in order to attain best fuel economy and meet CO2 limits for state inspection if necessary. Upholstery shows its age but is not horrible. That's about it. For a 25 year old car it is in pretty good condition and has lots of life left in it. It's still a head-turner and gets lots of positive comments, but it does not meet my current utilitarian needs. The car passes Missouri inspection and previously passed Colorado emissions/inspection requirements. It's not perfect, but you'll be hard pressed to find one in this condition that has not been restored. The reserve is realistic. TomTom in pics not intended to be included, but it too has a price! I just took this on a 300 mile trip to get my new pickup in Arkansas and had no issues at all. You can come get this car and drive it home with confidence. The car is located on the north side of Joplin, MO right next to the regional airport (connect thru DFW) and of course Joplin sits conveniently on the crossroads of I-44 and I-49 making it relatively convenient for anyone to pick it up and drive it home.
