Vehicle Detail

1977 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible "Champagne Edition" 1 of 1000. Just in time for Spring... From the Fred M. Kemp Foundation, The Kemp Auto Museum is offering for auction Ms. Molly, our 1977 “Champagne Edition” Super Beetle. The Champagne Edition was a special edition of the Beetle produced by VWoA in 1977/78, with the '77 cars being constructed out of white on white cars. VWoA also only produced 1,000 “Champagne Editions” in 1977, one for each perspective US dealer. In 1977 VWoA (Volkswagen of America) had this to say about the Champagne Edition... ..."The Champagne Edition Beetle is truly an elegant rarity: the exterior is Alpine White, the convertible top is Light Sand. Coachwork is Immaculate. Inside, the seats are Cameo White. If you want to drive the rarest of the rare - The Champagne Edition Beetle is for you. " From that description you can tell the "Champagne Edition" was the best of the best from VW in 1977. Today they are some of the most desired of the late German built Beetles. Now, if you're in the market for a "Champagne Edition" look no further than Molly, as she is likely the most original and correct Champagne Edition Super Beetle in existence! Molly was first purchased from Jordan VW Inc, in Charlotte, North Carolina where the owner had a vacation home and was rarely driven. Sometime in the late 1980’s Regency Autohaus in Naples, Florida purchased the car, where they verified the mileage in September of 1988 with 4,895 miles on the odometer. In January of 1989 Fred M. Kemp, beloved architect and founder of the Kemp Auto Museum in St. Louis, Missouri, purchased the car with the odometer reading 4,905 miles. Fred would rarely drive the car. We have a May 1991 service receipt from a local AMOCO station where the odometer read just 5,048 miles. Today Molly remains a running, driving, stopping car with an un-paralleled level of originality. The odometer currently reads just 5,209.1 miles and is even still running on her 5 factory original Dunlop tires. Mechanically speaking, she is completely original, featuring the factory 4-cylinder 1600cc fuel injected engine with the matching 4-speed gearbox. Her original dealer window sticker resides in a wood frame and her owner’s manual still resides in the glove box. Don’t be fooled by other cars that claim to be a Champagne Edition, Molly is the real deal. Feel free to take a look at the Ebay Buyer Guide 10000000003621735 on the Champagne Edition for further details on this special model of the Beetle. The first line of her dealer window sticker lists the “Champagne Edition Package” as a $50 option.Additional photos upon request Please direct any questions to me via Ebay or contact me directly at mike@kempautomuseum.org
