Vehicle Detail
This is a 1939 Plymouth. it has suicide doors. the engine purrs and runs excellent. although it needs the carb rebuilt, because when you rev it up or drive it. it starves for fuel and you have to pull the choke on . it also needs a new mechanical fuel pump, as the old one just barely pumps fuel. 35.00 plus shipping on ebay. it is running right now with an electric fuel pump taking the place of the mechanical pump. This is a very solid car for the age. "almost 75 years old". in 1973, this came from Texas to Missouri....at that time it was repainted and the bumpers were re-chromed. it has not been touched since. The body is very,VERY nice shape. I can only find one small door ding on the bottom of the front passenger door. otherwise the body pretty well looks as straight as a sheet of glass. one of the pictures shows the view looking down the doors of the passenger side....incredibly straight. the inside of the fenders feels as smooth as glass also. on the very bottom of the trunk lid and the roll pan under it, there is some rust that has started from a repair in '73. the running boards are in excellent non rusted or dented shape. the rubber is peeling off of them. I was going to strip them and paint them with rhino lining. The paint job is 40 years old . although it still shines, it has numerous places where there are scrapes and a few places that peeled. fore instance, you can see in the pictures one area on the passenger front fender that has chipped/peeled off. it is all straight and solid metal under it on both sides of the fender with only surface rust on it. The interior is all there but it is the old corduroy material, and it is faded and has tears in the seats and a few other places. the headliner is all still intact, but it has one quarter size hole in it and it also has fading. the rear carpet is excellent. the front carpet is shot. the floors are all solid except one area under the drivers feet."but that rust is on the original bolt on floor pan that goes from the drivers to the passenger side. it unbolts to get to the under side of the car. this complete bolt on plate is for sale new on ebay for 129.99 w/ free ship. no welding, just bolt on like the original .that would fix the only rust problem on the floor boards. also, the dash glass has a crack in it. The trunk has one quarter size hole in the bottom of the formed/dished spare tire area, and the rubber mat is peeling.. otherwise its in great shape with only surface rust. This does not have working brakes at this time....The previous owner said that they worked fine the last time it was driven by him. this had set for a couple of years before I purchased it. I added fluid to the master cylinder, but it does not pump any fluid at all. so it will need a new master cylinder. I have a clear title in my name. This would be an awesome parade car or weekend cruiser. someone made a remark yesterday that with it's body style and retro green color, this is a sexy car. seeing most cars as females, I must agree. This rides like a dream and just floats over bumps. the previous owner said that it had no problem going 70 mph + to keep up with interstate traffic. this would not be for sale except I feel the need to be a kid again and I have the urge to buy another 70-81 trans am. so I am selling a few of my toys to do this. this is for sale locally. if there are no bids and I have a local sale, I will go with that. so if you are interested, don't wait until the last minute to bid. located approximately 2 hours NW of Kansas City Missouri or 2 hours SE of Omaha Nebraska or 2 hours North and East of Topeka Kansas. pick up only or might consider delivering for price of fuel plus $200.00 for up to 500 miles ...add another 200.00 more for over 500 miles. Not that it means anything . but I thought that it was interesting that this is the same color and make as the car Elvis and his family moved to Memphis in when he was 3 years old - a 1939 Plymouth green sedan. That car is on display at the grounds of the Elvis Presley Birthplace Home in Tupelo, Mississippi. Check out my other items!
