Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this running 1973 Volkswagen super beetle. Before i get started i entered the mileage as it is shown on the odometer 16983.9 but im pretty sure it that plus at least 100,000 more. I purchased this to do a restoration on it but i find that i have just too many projects and not enough time. The engine is a dual port and runs great considering that before i got it ,it hasn t been started since 1997.It has plenty of power and doesnt leak or burn oil. The transmission and clutch work fine too. Obviously the body needs plenty of attention but is basically solid. The floors are solid and dont appear to have been replaced, the only rust through is under the battery tray and its not that bad.All of the tires are shot with severe dry rot, 3 of them hold air for a few days but the left rear one only holds air for a few hours. The brake lines are rusted out but the emergency brake works good.Headliner is in great shape just a little dirty. Both front seats are in rough shape and need to be either redone or replaced. Both vent windows open and close smoothly. The driver side door window rolls up and down easily but the passenger side door window is tight and i have not forced it beyond a couple of inches.Driver side headlight works but not the passenger side one. Both tail lights work. Both door handles work inside and out and both doors lock and unlock with the key.The car starts with the key too! I couldn t take a picture of the trunk open because it just wouldn t open today but i have had it open, maybe it just had some ice on it or something. The rear deck lid (engine cover) is in rough shape with rust through along the entire bottom edge. The right side (passenger side) rear bumper mount is rusted through but repairable. The wiring harness in the engine compartment is badly deteriorated and will need to be either repaired or replaced,(see engine picture on left side). Since you are looking at the engine picture, notice that the pulleys look blurry, thats because the engine is idling. There is also an exhaust leak on the left side at the gasket for the manifold heat tube. There is a clear Michigan title on this VW.well i guess that about it, please feel free to ask lots of questions BEFORE bidding! PLEASE NOTE- This car will need to be towed or trailered and is not road worthy at this time !!!!!! Added 2/25/2013 - Today is in the 40,s here and the trunk opened with no problem so i added some pictures. There is a spare tire that goes with it but the tire like the rest of the tires is shot, only difference is the spare wont even take air. There is also the original jack and tool kit. I also have the original peice of cardboard that covers the gas tank and the metal plate that covers the back of the dashboard. I may consider delivering within a 200 mile radius of zip 48342 on an open trailer for $1.00 per mile per mapquest mileage from the above zip to your zip. If you choose the delivery option, the delivery fee will be paid in advance and will be NON REFUNDABLE ! The deposit fee of $100.00 is to be paid through Paypal within 24 hours of auction end and is NON REFUNDABLE !!!! Balance to be paid within 7 days of auction end in cash or bank check.I do not accept personal checks!!! If paying with bank check the car will not be released until funds clear my bank. This car is to be removed from my property within 7 days from auction end unless prior arrangements have been agreed on BEFORE auction end. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
