Vehicle Detail
Available for purchase is a high quality 1985 Mercedes Benz 300TD Diesel wagon. It has been fuel-line upgraded to run biodiesel or can still be run on regular petro diesel. I bought this from the 3rd owner in Los Angeles about 2 years ago and had it shipped up to Seattle where I live. Relatively low mileage, great paint + engine + racks and trim etc. I've invested in numerous renovations included both mechanical and cosmetic (see details below). I've enjoyed owning it, but I also own a mint-condition 300D and I have an '80's 560SL in my future, so am selling the wagon to make room. EXTERIOR Taiga Beige (MB color code 684), basically the color of buttercream. The paint is original. I had it clay-buffed by a classic car auto detailing shop about 6 months ago to return the sheen and consistency.Chrome trim and roof rack solid all the way around. The sunroof functions great and does not leak. Sunroof is a manual-lever activated type, not automatic. Original yellow fog light Bosch headlights, as well as new Sylvania main headlights. All lights in working order. Rear hatch latches were adjusted for clean, tight fit and lock. I use this for my kids to get in and out of the rear 3rd row seats all the time. Tinted windows and rear hatch (spent most of its previous life in Los Angeles, I assume previous owner did that to reduce sun damage.) INTERIOR The interior is clean and in very good shape including seats both front and rear. Some carpet color fading evident in the very back (worst is on interior extra tire cover but if that's a deal breaker you're a true perfectionist ;-0). There is one small interior tear to a door vinyl on front passenger door interior section that I haven't bothered to repair, less than one inch long. Also small tears of similar nature on rear of one of the back bench seat headrests, facing the hatchback - but you'd have to look at it from the open hatch to see those. No rips or tears in any of the seats except small ones as noted above. Also included is a sheepskin seat cover, which I use on the driver's seat. A recent Watcher pointed out that the seats are a combination of tan "MBTex" and leather, which was standard in the 300TD.The interior wood panels are in good condition as is the dash top, etc.Rear 3rd row seating option installed - which is a hard-to-find option. Both the 3rd row seating bench and the back panel (with seat belt latches) are in like-new condition. Can be folded down for cargo bed when not needed.Original matching OEM carpet floor mats just purchased and installed throughout.Alpine stereo with CD player, radio, and input jack for iPods and such. Original Speakers.Heat + Defrost works and blows well on all settings. However, the A/C does not blow cold (I suspect it would need a freon recharge for that to work).Normal nicks and wear around interior panel controls for a 30-year old car, some wear but nothing major. MECHANICAL The car has been carefully maintained and I have addressed almost everything I've found since I purchased it. Rear window switches are bad/don't work, but could be replaced for a few bucks. I never roll down rear windows so I haven't needed them. Engine and transmission run great. Compression good, smooth shifting, no excessive smoke, steady idle, good glow plugs, turns over every time. Solid vacuum system, no known leaks. New Viton (biodiesel compliant) fuel line hoses. I run it on B99 bio diesel, fine for regular diesel as well. Power steering and brakes. I had the front steering rack and tie rods replaced last year. Steering is just a little 'loose', as you might imagine on an older vehicle, but not excessively so. Steering wheel is a little cockeyed, but that's easily addressed if you want. Neither affect everyday driving safety or experience. All the instruments work including speedometer, temperature gauges, clock, tachometer, etc. It's been a dependable daily driver and kid-hauler. Honestly no issues or gripes. Aside from a few things like some carpet color fading in the rear and a few nicks and scrapes as mentioned above, the interior is in quite good shape after all these years I think. Happy to deal with local pick-up or shipping. Feel free to send any questions before you bid and I welcome people who want to come take a look or have a presale inspection done by a local mechanic. All the above descriptions are made to the best of my knowledge but I am not a mechanic. If you wish to arrange for an inspection prior to purchase, there are a few mechanics near me but the arrangements and cost of this would be your responsibility. I will be glad to have it stay on the road and in good hands for many more years. Thanks and Happy Bidding.
