Vehicle Detail
1931 American Austin747cc inline four engine3 speed manual transmissionNew 400-18 tires 75" wheel base10' long bumper to bumper, and 49" wide Restored 30+ years ago by the previous owner who purchased it in California then moved here to North Carolina. Please look at all 24 photos, questions welcome.Runs and drives very well and is generally in very good condition, we have gone through it mechanically and everything works. Paint is 30+ years old and looks good, but some crazing/chipping on close inspection. Odometer reads 37,243 which could be correct but cannot be verified so please assume actual mileage is unknown. Registered and tagged in North Carolina with clear North Carolina title. PLEASE NOTE: Titled is dated 1928. When a title was issued many years ago to the previous owner it had the date 1928 and this has transfered to our title, but after doing some research with the American Austin Club with the VIN and Body Numbers we believe the vehicle was actually built in 1931. The American Austin Car Company went out of business in 1932. Included with the car are 10 years of American Austin Bantam Club magazines (lots of useful and interesting information), a reproduction 1930 Austin Bantam Instruction Book, and a 1965 book "Whatever bacame of the Baby Austin?" with lots of pictures and history of the American Austin and Bantam cars These cars were very poular in Hollywood and featured in Buster Keaton and Laurel & Hardy movies. The American Austin Car Company of Butler, Pennsylvania built these vehicles under license from the Austin Car Company of England, based on the poular British Austin Seven. Bodies were built by Hayes Body Co. Detroit, Michigan. We purchased a 10'x5" utility trailer specifically for this vehicle (fits perfectly as seen in one of the photos) and buyer may purchase it in addition to the car if needed, would be ideal if you plan to collect in person and trailer it home. This auction DOES NOT include the trailer, please ask. We have been to several car shows in this car including the American Austin Bantam Club National meet in the summer of 2012. It is always very popular at car shows and draws more attention than anything else, it makes everyone smile! The seat tips forward to reveal a storage area - room for lawn chairs and a small cooler etc. Here is the "small-print" Offered for sale as-is with no warranty.
