Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a 1975 Mercury Sno Twister 440 Snowmobile. I have owned this sled for about 27 years and it has been in storage mostly the entire time. After I purchased this sled in 1986, I removed and disassembled the engine for a rebuild. The crank was sent to Stuckey in New York for all new bearings. I reassembled the engine with new Wiseco pistons, rings (not sure of the oversize), wristpins, gaskets and bearings. Carbs are believed to be original. Removed jackshaft to check bearings and converted to run a Polaris secondary clutch. I also put a brand new at the time, Polaris open face clutch on and had the faces trued. I believe the CDI box is defective and has been since I have owned it. Several years ago I spoke with Hewtech ( manufacturer of aftermarket CDI boxes) and they had me perform a test on the original box which confirmed my theory. Engine had spark, would not idle, but would run at higher revs. Apparently one side is weak at idle and when you switch two wires in the connector the problem follows to the other side. For this reason sled probably has 2 miles on it since 1986. According to them it was a common problem with the factory CDI. A new CDI from them was about $145.00. With a little work this sled would make a nice sled for vintage show and ride. 440 Free air Kohler engine with factory twin pipes in very good condition (no rust holes or dents). All new bearings in crank, with Wiseco pistons, pins, and rings. Factory Mikuni carbs. No air box. Engine tag reads: MODEL-K440 2RS SERIAL-401516 SPEC-422305 CC-429.4 Polaris primary and secondary clutches. Primary clutch was new and is open face design. Secondary is very good used. Clutch cover will need slightly trimmed for side clearance. Hood has a few stress cracks but no structural damage. Windshield has a crack at top edge. Belly pan has one crack on bottom front.Odometer shows 1,371 miles. I am not sure if tachometer works.Tunnel is in good condition. Seat fabric is hard and has some cracks. Will need a new cover. Rear bumper is missing. The track is the original one with cleats. I understand they warranted these for replacement with a rubber track, but this one was never changed. It is the one that came with the sled. It will need to be gone over or replaced.I am located in the central Pennsylvania area if you would like to inspect. Highest bidder will have to arrange for pickup or shipping (US only). Any crating will be extra. I travel to Galeton, Potter county(Northcentral PA) a couple times per month and can deliver to that area for pickup at no charge. It will have to be when I'm scheduled to go there.Check out the photos and if you have any questions I will get back to you as soon as possible. I'm not on the computer all day, usually evenings. On Feb-13-13 at 18:36:35 PST, seller added the following information: I would like to add that I have located the original used pistons that I placed in the Wiseco boxes. The part number on the Wiseco boxes is 2103PS. This is a standard bore piston.
