Vehicle Detail
Beautiful, all stock, complete, rust-free, great running, Southern California/Southern Utah based older restoration (to a very high standard) of a 1966 Mustang coupe that I am selling for a friend (I'm the Ebay go-to guy in my neighborhood) who is a fastidious long-term owner. This Mustang runs and drives superbly, is economical, reliable, and inexpensive to maintain, and will drive very comfortably at freeway speeds all day long. I just took it out for a highway spin today after a brief winter hibernation and she started right up and performed perfectly. It's also a west coast car (built at the Ford factory in San Jose, CA) that has probably never been east of Utah. The idea of a classic 47 year old daily driver is very appealing. What's the point of having cool toys if you can't enjoy them regularly? The exterior was resprayed prior to 2001 (the year my friend bought it) in Candy Apple Red (an available 1966 Mustang color) to a high standard over the original Sahara Beige. Everything was removed prior to paint so there are no tape marks or overspray anywhere. It looks good up close and far away but some paint nicks (no dents) are starting to appear (see pics). The body is very straight and all the trim is in place and in excellent condition. The front and rear bumpers are NOS. All glass is perfect and all lights work. The left rear corner by the tail light looks like it may have been subject to a fender-bender years ago. The exterior (including the undercarriage) shows no signs of damage and the repair is almost unnoticeable from within the trunk (see pics). Speaking of the trunk, they tell a story about the history of the car. I have tons of pics that show it's straight, rust-free, original, etc. Plus, it comes with a very well-preserved bias-ply spare (factory original?) on an original Sahara Beige rim. And the undercarriage looks wonderful (see pics). It definitely confirms this Mustang has spent its life in a warm and dry climate. Floor pans are beautiful without even surface rust. The only departure from stock anywhere are the rims. They look good and certainly add to the appearance. Regarding the interior, it's very well-preserved and bone stock. It's clear the high standard that was applied to the exterior restoration was carried over to the interior restoration. The upholstery looks stunning (seats, door panels, head liner). Carpeting looks almost as good with no fraying or wear to be found. Dash is exceptional with no cutting or butchery of any kind. All buttons, knobs, switches and levers are in place and operate properly. The overall condition of the dash leads me to believe the miles are original (see pics). The dash pad does have cracks typical of a Southwestern car but they are hidden by a protective cover (see pics). It even has the original AM radio that works great. In fact, everything on the dash works great. Windows roll up and down nicely as well. Front, inside door corners have minor rust due to clogged drain holes from sometime in the ancient past. Only other flaws are a package shelf needs to be installed (not sure why it doesn't have one), plastic kick panels have some cracking, and the sill trim is slightly bent from use (see pics). The running gear is a real strength. It has the indestructible 200CID inline 6 and C-4 automatic transmission (rebuilt 22,000 miles ago) running to the Ford 7.25 rear differential. Again, this running gear works great and needs nothing. And an automatic is a real plus as most 6 cylinder Mustangs came with a 3 speed manual. Also, the Ford automatic of the era was a 3 speed at a time when the competition predominantly used a 2 speed. That's another reason this car makes such a great daily driver. The running gear is all stock and original other than a remanufactured head and new exhaust manifold ($1548!) in 2008. It also had a new radiator and flex fan installed in 2006 (less than 3000 miles ago). Brakes work well and the car tracks straight and true. Front tires were replaced (rears are excellent), wheel bearings repacked, and front end aligned less than 1000 miles ago. Rear brakes (including wheel cylinders) and exhaust manifold/pipe gaskets were replaced less than 2000 miles ago. A lot more has been done and the seller has receipts for everything. This is an awesome Mustang. As it is, it needs nothing and is ready to enjoy immediately. It has been maintained to a very high standard and driven regularly but not excessively. The miles are very possibly original (I'm a serious car guy and this Mustang just looks, drives, and FEELS low mileage; I bet you car guys know what I mean). I like the idea of a practical car you can use every day that is actually appreciating in value. Hopefully it will find a home with someone that recognizes her as a viable alternative to a generic 21st century vehicle that is more appliance than car. Just my opinion. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have tons of pictures that show every nook and cranny. Please send me a non-Ebay email address and I will get them to you promptly. This Mustang is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, Utah (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). You may want to consider flying in and driving home (fluids were all changed/checked less than 100 miles ago). I would be happy to help facilitate that. Thank you very much for your interest.
