***PLEASE READ MY ENTIRE AD AND VIEW ALL PHOTOS BEFORE BIDDING*** If you are in the market for a fantastic classic beetle, you have clicked on the right listing! Up for auction is my 1971 Volkswagen Classic Super Beetle. A 41-year one owner VW originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, it was regularly garaged and meticulously looked after. 1971 was the first year for the Super Beetle, and also the best year for the Super Beetle. The "facelift" model made changes from the Standard Beetle to include McPherson struts up front (relocating the spare tire under the car, doubling the trunk space). A welcomed change in the handling and storage department for these cars. It was over the next couple of years that they went to the less-desirable curved windshield, modern dash, oversized tail lights and collapsible steering wheel. The '71 still had the flat windshield, flat dash, vintage steering wheel and small tail lights, retaining the character of its predecesors. I am the 2nd owner and restorer of the car -- The winner of this auction will become the 3rd owner. I have the original owners manual, a clear Georgia title, reciepts on most work done and two sets of keys. One key fits all and I have two. I have itemized the condition of the car below: 1. Interior -- The interior is in as-new condition. The seats are original and perfect. The front door panels are new and the rear side panels are original, yet still perfect. Notice the chrome ash trays on both sides..they don't reproduce these. The headliner is new. The sun visors are new. The carpet is new (including trunk area). The dash is original and clean with no splits or cracks. Interior of the body work was repainted the original color (saturn yellow) when the exterior paint work was done and it shows as-new with no scratches or scuffs. All electrics function as-new to include the horn, all dash lights, dome light, blinkers and exterior lighting, and all guages (speedometer and odometer). The heater functions perfectly and is fitted with the optional blower motor which keeps the heat comming even when the car is stationary. The original jack and tool kit are in the trunk. Everything on this car has been kept entirely original, except for one item. I have installed a new black (dash-matching) 200-watt JVC stereo CD-player w/ AUX-in. Being that the original stereo was an AM-only unit with one speaker, if you like good music, this is a must-have in this car! The speakers are a pair of boxed 6x9s located behind the rear seats in the lugage well. The interior of this Beetle is a solid 9.9 out-of-10. 2. Body and Paint -- This VW is 100% rust free (and was before it's restoration). It's a laser straight, no-accident example sporting all of its original steel, even the original running boards. All body panels are jigsaw puzzle tight, with no gaps at the doors, hoods (front or rear) or fenders. The underside of this little gem is as clean as the top side. The car was professionally repainted its original color (saturn yellow) roughly two years ago. All fenders, front and rear windows and quarter windows were removed from the car prior to the re-spray. As the body panels were re-installed, all new rubber seals were added at the doors, windows, hood and deck lid, including all new fender beading. The paintwork is beautiful with NO orange peel, dings, scratches or dents anywhere. I doubt if the paint looked this nice when the car was new. The car is impressively air-tight, you need to crack a window to shut the door! No chrome door jambs or chrome fender tips have been added on this car because there is no rust to hide! Bumpers, headlamp trim, turn signal lamps and trim, hubcaps and all VW emblems are new. Here again, I would have to give the body and paint a solid 9.9 out-of-10. 3. Engine and mechanics -- The engine has been completely rebuilt from the casing up. I chose to rebuild the original engine rather than installing a remanufactured engine as I wanted the engine to have its original AE engine number. The casing was machined and ALL new internals were installed (bearings, rods, crank, inserts, pistons, cylinders, heads, valves, gaskets, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc.). I used new VW parts where ever I could. The exception came with the replacement of the transaxle (transmission), which is a remanned unit (a part you cannot purchase new). All work was done by a German trained aircooled VW engine machanic. NO fluid leaks anywhere. She runs fantastic! Shifting is smooth up and down the gears. The engine bay has also been detailed out. (see photo). All brakes have been replaced, along with new wheel cylinders and bearings in all wheels. New axles and axle boots, and front tires (rears have 80% tread remaining) have also been fitted. No expense spared! Mechanically, I rate it a solid 10-out-of-10. I am 68 years young and a six-year retiree with a passion for old cars. When I started restoring these Beetles some years ago, I did it as something to occupy my mind and relieve me of the monotony of retired life. I enjoyed the project so thoroughly, I'm proud to say this is the 14th Beetle I have owned! When I'm shopping for a candidate, I am very picky about which VWs I purchase and choose to restore. A truly nice Beetle is becoming more and more difficult to find. What distances have you travelled to inspect a falsely-advertised example that didn't meet your expectations? I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me. The disappointment is overwhelming. Whoever said "a picture is worth a thousand words" didn't know what he or she was talking about! This will not be the case with this car. I have sold these cars to buyers all over the country. Everyone who has purchased one of my Beetles has been fully satisfied with the work done. The price that I am asking is more than reasonable. Check out the other's asking prices and you'll see the difference. You could not purchase one of these cars and restore it for what you will pay for this one. You can show or drive this VW anywhere you wish. *If you need to contact me for any reason please call me at 706-736-3972 or email me through eBay. Interested parties are welcome to third-party inspections on the car and I are urged to come see and drive the car in person. NOTE: A nonrefundable deposit of $500.00 is required at auction's end and payable through PayPal. The balance owed to be due within 7 days of auction end and payable in cash or bank cashiers check. If you have less than 5 feedbacks or negative feedbacks, please contact me before bidding. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but I will assist in any way I can. Thanks for looking -- HAPPY BIDDING!!
