Vehicle Detail

I am proud to offer this very rare 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible. I had to relist it because someone "said" they accidently hit the buy it now button three times. So hopefully things will go smoother this time around. This is a very unique original survivor. It belongs to my uncle who aquired it from a gentleman in Southern Missouri that owned it since 1967. He was a shriner and mostly used the vehicle in parades and different events. It is bright red with a striking red and white interior. It was sitting in his shop for about the last five years. It has been very well kept. We just recently installed a new battery, new fuel pump, drained the tank, oil change, new brake shoes, new front and rear wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new parking brake cables and housings, new brake drums, new return springs, new hold down springs, new grease seals, new throttle linkage, new Cooper tires and much more. The car drives out very well. The whole new brake rebuild stops the car beautifully. The motor runs extremely well and is very quiet. It does have glass packs that were installed sometime in the 70's that sound great and have a little rumble going down a hill. All the gears work very well and the clutch works just as it should. The paint looks awesome and has a nice shine to it. The interior is very striking and has no rips or tears. The carpet is also in very good shape. The pictures also show the trunk compartment to be in great shape. The power top motor has been taken off because they are very slow to operate. I do have it and it will transfer to the new owner with the car. The top is in equally great shape and has no rips , tears or repairs. It operates manually very easily. All the original chrome is present on the car. Most of it is in nice but there is some light pitting that I have tried to show the worst areas in the pictures. The front and rear bumper both have a few small places that the chrome platting has chipped, you should be able to see it in the pictures. The odometer does work and I am told that the 93,205 miles are actual miles. This car is a wonderful daily driver. It is not perfect but we arent wanting a huge price either. The general overall condition is very good and will make anyone proud to drive it. Everytime I have driven it people are just enamored with it and I get a thumbs up almost very other driver. I will now try and describe the small issues you might not see in the pictures but would be seen in person. The exterior: The paint looks great (rate at 6.5-7) but has a few minor chips and nicks that have been touched up. Above the rear bumper there are 2 small areas one on each side about the size of a half dollar where the paint is flaking but has been like that for several years and has not gotten worse. The engine compartment: This area is the weakest of the car. It needs to be detailed and some painting done. The motor could be degreased and cleaned up. The inner fender wells could be painted to bring a luster thats close to the rest of the car. The trunk area: Overall this is in great shape and really needs nothing to enhance it. Of course it is simple and without any frills from the factory. The interior: It has a few sun faded areas you might see in the pictures. They are not bad at all but you do see it slightly discolored in some of the red areas and slightly on the carpet on the tunnel area. I might have these dyed in the next few days. The interior is in really strong condition and I would rate it about an 8 or 8.5. The glass: As you can see the passenger side front window is cracked but zi do have another complete window assembly to replace it. I will try and have that done before the sale is complete but if not if will transfer with the car to the new owner. The windshield is in great shape with no cracks or stars. All the other windows are in great shape as well and need nothing. The convertible top; The top is in great shape and has no rips or tears and has not been repaired. The zipper on the plastic window works just like new and is solid. The plastic window is in great shape and is clear and has no cracks. As I said above the hydraulic pump has been removed because they operate agonizingly slow but does come with the car. The tires: They are new. The spare tires is like new. The mechanical condition: The rear end is in great shape no issues. The motor runs very well and seems strong. I do have the original air cleaner but run the car without it. It seems a little corroded inside and dont trust it to not suck up something in the motor. The exterior finish of the air cleaner is great just corroded inside. The clutch and gears and great. You do hear a whining noise from what I believe is the throwout bearing. In a accelerating mode you hear it but when you let off the pedal it seems to dissipate. This might go away with more driving. It seems the more I drive it the quieter it gets. The odometer and speedometer work fine. The speedo jumps around sometimes. The radio does not work to my knowledge but I have not spent anytime messing with it. (no good am stations here). Well I have tried to be very accurate. If you have any questions that I have not answered please feel free to call me at 479-841-6718. Please dont let the accuracy of my description deter you from purchasing this car. It is a wonderful vehicle and would make anyone proud to drive it!! Good luck!!On Jan-28-13 at 05:17:41 PST, seller added the following information: I wanted to add a couple of notes. I was reminded that I failed to mention a small issue when I pinned the description of the car. When you drive the car there is a certain point you turn the steering wheel and there is a brief catch or small skip. It isnt a big deal just a little distracting when you first drive it. The steering is amazingly tight though and it drives great. Two opinions I have heard tighten up and lubricate steering box or rebuild steering box ( man in Kansas $175.00) personally not a big deal to me I wouldn't touch it. Also I have purchased another air cleaner assembly that is like new that I will install on the car.
