Vehicle Detail

Relisted due to non-paying bidder! 1990 MB 300d 2.5 turbo diesel non-rebuildable salvage PARTS CAR, runs and drives, show 165k miles, many useful parts for repair or conversion of W124 chassis to diesel. I bought this car at an insurance auction in '06 or '07 with big plans and good intentions to convert my 300e wagon into a clone of the the rare 1987 diesel W124 wagon. As you can see, this never came about and I'm in the process of getting ready to relocate, all still-born projects must go! This was a 'flood car' but it certainly wasn't submerged much as there was no water in the oil or transmission fluid, with the addition of a battery it ran great. The seats and windows did not seem to work so maybe water did get into the wiring channels in the floor, the back left window is stuck down but has been draped with a tarp. Since then it's sat around, been moved once or twice, but not run much at all. It will start easily and drive but the brakes are a little stiff from disuse. There're no rust issues so all the panels can be used for replacements, the front clip is in great shape, doors undamaged, etc. unlike you find with the usual non-rebuildable salvage car... These engines are hard to find and this is a low milage good condition example of this MB diesel, put a battery in it and it starts instantly. Contact me with questions or to come see it, I can provide video of it running, just need an email address. The car isn't in the way where it is so it doesn't need to be picked up immediately but I will need payment in full to store it and it'll need to be gone by April. Please do not bid if you do not intend to pay, don't know if you have the money, aren't sure this is the right engine for your car, must clear it with your wife, etc... There have been questions about various mechanical aspects of the car, here's what I can report after some limited driving today (Feb 2) on my 1/4 mile driveway:- Engine starts immediately and shows oil pressure in less than two seconds, cold oil pressure is '3' on gauge.- Oil pressure at warm idle in neutral is '1.6', with the car in gear and foot on the brake just a hair less than that.- The transmission shifts well with no appreciable delay shifting between D, R and back to D. There is no slippage and the car will easily spin it's wheels on grass, etc...- Transmission fluid is full and appears to be pink with no burned odor.- There doesn't appear to be any oil residue in the cooling system surge tank (where cap is) but the tank has turned brown with age. Wiping my finger inside the surge tank shows some red residue (rust? MB antifreeze?) but it's not oily.- There doesn't appear to be any bubbles or foam in the cooling system surge tank.- The cooling system has straight water in it right now as the old coolant was drained for long-term storage, I don't remember what color that coolant was.- The engine was slow to warm up, maybe from not working very hard going up and down the driveway on a cool day, but finally rose to around '80'.- The fuel gauge registers 1/2 tank but sometimes drops to almost empty, I added 5 gallons or so of diesel before getting it going but am unsure how much fuel is actually in the tank.- The muffler is rusted out. There have been some inquires about parting the car out. Unfortunately, I don't have the time as I'm preparing to move after 25 years here (where did all this stuff come from!?) and friends I've spoken to about taking that on aren't interested. As the car runs and drives it will load for transport, shop around for the best deal. It's not like you have to worry about the paint being damaged in shipping, LOL! I have some video of the car and running engine at dropbox, provide your info and I'll send a link.
