Vehicle Detail
2 Owner AZ Car from brand new 85,380 original documented miles. Rust free car in immaculate condition bought new at Phoenix Motor Company Introduced to the public in Spring of 1971, the all new Mercedes-Benz SL code name R107 became available as a personal luxury sports car. Nicknamed de Panzerwagen for weighing in at more than 3,400 pounds, the new SL for model year 1972 was a completely new body, with new luxury and safety refinements. A completely redesigned engine was housed underneath the hood, and a 4.5 liter SOHC V8 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. By the late 1970's and early 1980's Mercedes-Benz had to meet constantly changing emissions controls, therefore causing lower compression and lower horsepower. By 1985 Mercedes-Benz finally upped the performance back to where it should have been all along. Introduced in Summer of 1985, the 560SL was launched with an all new 5.6 litre aluminum engine and a 4-Speed automatic giving it more horsepower and higher compression. The SL was given the performance it needed to put it back on top. Up for auction is a beautiful 2 owner 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL in gorgeous Grey Pearl Metallic with Grey Leather interior. This SL left the Mercedes-Benz production line in Stuttgart Germany in September of 1987, then invoiced to Mercedes-Benz North America. Arriving in the country in October of 1987 where it was then sent to Phoenix Motor Company in Arizona. It was sold to the first owner on December 18, 1987 then traded back in to Phoenix Motor Company in March of 1989. The second and current owner bought the car from Phoenix Motor Company on April 6, 1989 and has owned it here in AZ ever since, NO RUST. This is a beautifully maintained SL since new, and has the original owners manual, warranty books, dealer books, soft/hardtop book, Roadside Assistance book, MB quick cards, original contract from the MB dealer, warranty contracts, the Huf factory keys, factory hardtop, soft top, hardtop/soft top key, tool kit, jack original first aid kit and spare tire are all present. It has its original Mercedes-Benz factory Becker Grand Prix Electronic radio with power antenna and original 15" aluminum Mercedes-Benz Sport style wheels. Everything works on the car, ice cold A/C, power windows, power door locks, all the electronics and lights, turn signals, reverse lights, fog lights, and license plate lights and heater work perfectly. This SL was just recently serviced with newer pads, A/C belt, alternator belt, air pump belt, fan belt and power steering belt recently replaced. The fuel distributor system has been tuned to factory spec and the radiator, coolant hoses and fan have all been replaced. The interior is absolutely stunning! The seats do not have any wear, cracks or stains anywhere. The carpets are all original and in beautiful shape. The wood grain is perfect, not a single crack or clear coat peeling anywhere. All of the trim, the plastics and chrome are in perfect shape. It even has the original sun visor clips intact and working perfect. The dash is perfect without a single crack or mark. The exterior chrome on the bumpers, the windshield, doors and trunk are extremely nice, all of the black rubber and plastic trim bits are in excellent condition. The hardtop is in beautiful shape, the headliner is perfect, and all the chrome and glass is perfect. The soft top is in excellent condition as is all of the hardware. The top mechanisms function as they should with easy opening, unlocking and closing of the top and the hardtop. The paint is stunning with a gorgeous shine to it, there is one tiny scratch on the hood next to the MB Star, and two small scratches on the back deck lid from the hardtop. Overall the car is in outstanding condition, it runs and drives beautifully, it idles superbly, the transmission shifts effortlessly, the steering feels tight and precise with no play in the wheel and the suspension feels excellent with no creaks or rattles. The car has never been neglected like many older R107 SL's. Never smoked in, never wrecked or salvaged, box A actual miles. If you are looking for a well maintained beautiful SL this is it. The SL is the benchmark for sports/luxury motoring, whether its with the hardtop on for a coupe' feel or the top all the way down for open air driving these car will never disappoint.
