Vehicle Detail
1938 Ford Pickup Tow Truck. Flathead V8 starts right up and runs good! Even in winter, fires right up, no smoke or problems. Quite amazing. No Rust. When I say no rust, I mean NO RUST!! This is one of the nicest all-original trucks you are going to find. It runs and shifts and drives great. The tow body is functional and will lift whatever you want. This is the heavy-duty model which has much larger and better brakes, the high-horsepower engine, a stronger frame, better springs and a 4-speed transmission. These are transverse springs and radius rods like any true hot-rod should have. All the springs are in great condition and the vehicle sits straight and level. The heavy-duty rear diff has lower gears for better acceleration. The seat has a newer cover since the original cover is torn and could be re-covered. The brakes even work good. Glass could be replaced. Windows roll up and down but glass is cracked Rear is missing and drivers is missing a triangle piece. Not unusual for a truck of this age. Again, you are not going to find an all-original truck this nice that isn't a trailer-queen. There are a few small dings, but NO RUST. When I say 'no rust' I mean absolutely NONE. ANYWHERE. Floors, sills, cab corners, gas tank edges, running boards, you name it. You will not find a more solid truck. Guaranteed. The paint has the classic 'brushed' layers over the original pinstripes. I used a bit of 'heavy-duty Easy-Off oven cleaner' and was able to let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe away to the original paint since it is a lot stronger than the hardware store stuff. This truck has the optional heater (Montana is cold in the winter), ashtray, etc. I guess they call that the 'delux' cab. The heater needs new hoses. The 1938 Ford is the first year for a one-piece hood. The original hood ornament is also the hood latch. It works great. Really a super cool design. For those not familiar, the hood ornament twists sideways to open the hood. Very cool. I have more photos and several videos of the truck running and driving around the ranch. Please contact me and I will furnish the link. The videos show the truck running on a jerry can. I have since hooked up the original tank and it works great. The last owner had put in an electric fuel pump. I do not understand why. The original tank and fuel pump work great. I installed a new style fuel filter between the tank and original fuel pump to catch any crud. Truck comes with a current and free title from the State of Montana. I will send you the title via Registered mail. Truck is 'as is' with no guarantee. It is 75 years old. Honestly, on a cold day this thing fires up better than any truck on the ranch. Just unbelievable. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I can store the truck while you arrange shipping, within reason. Please contact me after the sale.
