Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a very nice, restored 1965 Mustang Convertable with a 289 2 barrel and an automatic transmission and a power top. Here is the deal. It would appear this car has had 2 owners over it's lifetime. It was originally sold at a dealership in Louisville, KY back in 1965. At some point in the late 80's or early 90's, the original owner had the car totally restored and then sold it to the fellow I got it from. The seller I got the car from drove the car all through college and then parked it about 4 years ago with the intentions of again freshening up the older restoration. He took it apart and life got in the way of finishing it. It sat outside. When I bought the car, the convertable top was gone and the floors were rusted through, but the outer body was all good, as were the inner and outer rockers and all structural members. The restoration that was done on the car years ago was typical of work that was done on these cars back then with the parts that were available. It was good work, but not show quality. I ended up getting the floors replaced, installing a new top, all new interior and repainting the car. All the exterior chrome trim is new. I do not know if the engine is original to the car or not. It appears to be the original 289 2 barrel engine and transmission but I did not check any numbers. It was not important to me. The car has dual exhaust. We also replaced the fuel system, including the gas tank, sender unit, gas line, fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. The original distributor was converted over to electronic ignition and all tuned up. There are new belts installed and a new solenoid. The engine runs very well. We ended up replacing the brake master cylinder. The brakes are all bled and adjusted and appear to work well. They are the original non-power drum brakes, so "work well" is a relative description! LOL. They work as well as they did in '65. The car also had manual steering. We checked all the ball joints and such and found all to be in good usable condition. The tires that are on the car are the ones that have been on it since the prior owner stopped using it. They have good tread, but really cannot be trusted on the road. I was not all that concerned that they do not clean up well and have some overspray on them because I assumed a buyer will want to choose what wheels and tires they want to run on this car to personalize it. I also I did not want to throw money away on me guessing at what someone may want. I feel the same way about the radio. The one that is in it powers up, but I did not run speakers for the same reason. The dash has not been modified, so a factory radio will go right back in, if that is what is desired. The car has pony seat covers and standard door panels. These were provided by the last owner to me, so that is what I used. The seats also have new foam in them. The hood is also brand new. To put it simply, this car will make a very nice looking vintage driver, not a show piece. We have not driven it much except here on my lot. I do not have it licensed or insured. The car has a very nice finish on it and the body was pretty darn straight to begin with, so it still looks very good now with the new paint. The car is the original color of Ivy Green metallic. The paint is PPG base coat / clearcoat. The new floor pans were coated with epoxy sealer and undercoated from the bottom. I know people will probably as me about the under structure, so here it is. The people that did the last restoration years ago replaced torque boxes, inner rockers, trunk floors and one of the front aprons where the battery is. Pretty typical stuff. All those parts were still good shape with the exception being the floors because the top was junk. We had the floors replaced and both front frame rails patched in the very front where the bumper bracket bolts always break out. We also replaced the right rear rail extension where the spring shackle attaches. The left door appears original as well as the front fenders, but the passenger door seems to be a replacement along with the hood. The cowl does NOT seem to leak, but the blower motor does not run. Let me give you a list of things I know do not work or need attention. Blower motor Horn Door glass all needs adjusting slightly Small chip in windshield passenger side Tires /wheels Radio For these reasons am offering this car with a very reasonable buy it now and reserve. I am already working on other stuff and would like it out of my way. I do not have a lot of free inside storage space, so keeping it around is an issue for me. TERMS: AS IS / WHERE IS SALE. No warranties implied whatsoever. It is an old car. We have not driven it much and I have told you all the history I know above. You have to have a PayPal account in order to bid. This helps weed out some of the scammers that always seem to crop up on these auctions. If you are truly an interested buyer, call me and I can add you to an approved bidder list without the PayPal account. $250 deposit due within 24 hours of auction close. This is OK to pay with PayPal if you want, or call me with a major credit card directly. I take them through my boat business. The balance of the sale price is due within 7 days of auction close. There are inside storage facilities around here and I have a trailer to get it there. 7 days is all I can commit to keeping it inside for you personally. The car is sold with a clean and clear Ohio certificate of title. The VIN #'s all match. The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction AT ANY TIME for a local sale. If you have question, you can choose to use the ask seller a question link or call me directly at 270-507-6571 cell. No test drives. The car is not licensed. The pictures and my description tell the story. I sell a lot of vehicles and boats on Ebay every year for the past 10 years and do not need to lie to get it done. There are about 40 pictures here on my photobucket account in full size. http://photobucket.com/65mustangcon
