Over the fifteen years I have owned the car, we've restored the top mechanism and material, the mechanicals, most of the power assist features, tires, paint and much bright work. What's left to do is to replace the chrome removed by the paint shop and to redo the faded black cloth interior. Here is what I know about the car's history: it was ordered by a Salisbury NC furniture maker in a rare color, dark ivy green Metallic, with black leather interior and optional air conditioning. At his death, his banker bought it, painted it Tarheel Blue, and replaced the aging leather with black cloth. I am the third owner; I bought it from the banker in 1996. I drove the car for two years and replaced brakes, exhaust, water pump, starter, alternator, regulator, and tires, that are heavy duty steel-belts. In 1999, I took it off the road and since then its been at various shops and in my garage, where I'd planned to do the last parts. Lincoln ivory was the paint color we chose, and we collected matching leather for the interior that we planned as the optional two-tone ebony and ivory (photo shown). Other notable work that has been already done on the car includes electrical restoration (door and trunk diodes, switches and window motors) and top replacement by Frank Vickers, an award-winning show car restorer who had been the service department manager for Lincoln of Charlotte. I found him through the Lincoln club, and he recognized the car immediately because he sometimes serviced the car when it was brought from Salisbury. Sadly, this car was his last project as he passed away, leaving the door panels to be replaced. John Cashman of Clearwater FL finished Frank’s work in the trunk on a stop while on route to the national Lincoln meet in Ohio. I spoke with him recently and he is still traveling to these cars when needed. Since last fall, when we decided to sell our house, I flushed the gas tank and replaced the fuel pump, turned the motor over carefully, replaced the plugs and points, and the car started promptly and runs smoothly. It will drive around the neighborhood, shifts gears, stops well, and the top/trunk operates. Two months ago, in response to local ads, I sold the car to a fellow who has a four door convertible Continental in black. He left a deposit and took the manuals and all the new leather for the interior, but has not returned to pick up the car! I hope to recover the leather but I can't promise it because the buyer is unresponsive. The manuals are available online, and most at no charge.I have all the parts to complete the car, except some chrome clips. I have lots of extra parts. The condition of these ranges from good 'cruise-in' to show worthy. Especially nice are the bumpers - I have several sets acquired while searching and these all go with the car. There's another grill and other chrome. I'll be happy to answer any questions or to show the car to anyone with a strong interest. To see more pictures, send me an email address that will accept large photo files of high quality and let me know what part of the car you might be most interested in seeing in detail. We're moving and losing storage so that this car is being sold at auction. It can be finished up now by a hobbyist, that should provide a lot fun and a great investment. Deposit ($1000) must be made within 48 hours; I suggest Paypal. Balance of the purchase price will be due by pickup, which must be by March 1. The car is for sale locally, and several buyers have expressed serious interest, but the car needs to go soon. I reserve the right to close the auction early if it sells locally. Please contact me with questions. Scammers beware - I'm experienced, have already had to deal with two of you in addition to a indecisive buyer and it only wasted our time. On Jan-24-13 at 14:45:51 PST, seller added the following information: I've added some more pictures that were the most requested of the engine compartment, the inside in its current condition (most read the description to see that the ebony and ivory is the plan and that the car has faded black cloth currently), and the trunk showing a wide shot and then a detailed view of the electricals along the right rear fender with the carpet back to show the trunk floor. On Jan-25-13 at 08:34:20 PST, seller added the following information: Another thing, and I added it yesterday after looking carefully as I took some pictures inside the trunk, but it didn't post for some reason. The inner rim of the passenger side of the track the supports the trunk seal has enough corrosion to show some holes, and I assume it held moisture here for a long time before I got it. I haven't found similar problems in careful inspection of the rest of the trunk and I was under the car with the fellow who pulled the sender and flushed the tank recently, and the car is very clean. Nevertheless it is not entirely 'rust-free' as my title description says. When I tried to fix it, it won't let me now. Sorry. Email or call for questions. My cell works most times: 919-619-1239, drew
