Vehicle Detail
Complete, original, stock, Army Surplus, former Military Police or Motor Pool, 1950 Chevrolet 3100 half-ton, short-bed pickup truck. This truck has Military Police/Motor Pool signage on the tailgate, left front fender, and dashboard (see pics). It also has an additional set of numbers stamped above the VIN on the VIN Plate (see pics). My hope is a military vehicle/Chevy truck expert can decipher this info and tell me a little of the history of this truck. I think that would be fascinating to know. Any takers? The exterior is in very good condition overall. Body panels are straight and rust is limited to typical cab corner stuff. The good news is that other than a quality repair begun in sheet metal on the left front cab corner (see pics), the remaining corners are original (see pics) and have never been repaired poorly with bondo or fiberglass. I always take this as a good sign because I hate redoing someone's shoddy work, especially with a Holy Grail truck like this one. Also, the left front fender is not original but the original fender with the Military Police signage is included (see pics). And somewhere along the line years ago it was resprayed and then more recently, body prep/primer work was started on the cab, doors, hood, and fenders. Below it all you can still see plenty of the original Olive Drab paint color that the truck was originally delivered with. The bed hasn't yet been touched and is temporally secured with tie-down straps. An NOS rail that attaches the bed to the frame is included (see pics). The interior is complete. Whatever items you don't see inside come with the truck including some extras (see pics). Clutch and parking brake pedals have removable aftermarket pads; stock pedals are underneath. Floorboards have typical rust on the perimeter (see pics) as do the kick panels. Again, these areas have never been repaired so you don't have to undo low-quality work. Replacement panels are readily available in the aftermarket as well. Dash is solid other than an old radio cut in the lower center and a cut near the left end of the center insert. The included dash panel inserts will cover some of it. A factory radio or radio plate goes in the upper radio slot and a radio plate is included (see pics). All seat bracketry, frame, sliders, base and back come with. Glass is good in front and rear (rear is out). Side glass is cracked but included so it can be used as a pattern. Wing windows and attachments are in great shape (see pics). The heater appears to not be original. Running gear is the Stovebolt inline six and four speed manual transmission running through a torque-tube to the rear differential. I have never started the truck but was told it ran great by a prior owner. Apparently, someone stuffed an old newspaper between the cab and the gas tank which created a leak. He would just put the fuel line into a gas can tucked in the cab to run it. Everything turns correctly, the clutch works, and it goes through the gears easily. Truck has spent a lot of time just sitting in a garage so brakes work but master cylinder and right rear slave cylinder leak. From a mechanical standpoint, the strength of the running gear lies in the fact that it is all there and in good shape. And it even comes with what very well may be the original spare tire (see pics). This is a very real, pure, honest truck. It needs to be restored or turned into a driver in it's current state. It is too complete, stock, and original to be rodded in any way. Plus the military heritage needs to be respected and considered in whatever you plan to do with it. For all I know, that heritage may dramatically increase it's value. My hope is it ends up in the hands of someone who will treat it right. And as a half-ton short-bed 3100 pickup truck it is definitely a Holy Grail truck and deserves to be treated accordingly. Just my opinion. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have TONS of additional pictures that show every nook and cranny. Send me your email address and I will get them to you promptly. The transfer will be via bill of sale. The truck is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, Utah (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest. Some valuable and interesting info about the truck from a sharp Ebayer... "HI I AM RICHARD FROM PA. THE MARKINGS ON THE DASH FRONT AND REAR TIRE PRESURES AND THE TMP 396 MEANS TRANSPORTATION MOTOR POOL AND THE NUMBER IS THE NUMBER OF THE TRUCK.THE ORD MIGHT MEAN FORT ORD CALIF.I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE REST.GOOD LUCK. RICHARD" Another expert commented on the spare tire... "One point, I am pretty sure that Firestone tire you have is authentic and milspec." Thanks for the great info! Also, the Reserve and Buy It Now are both $2500. It went up to that amount with two bidders (one got there first) during the first auction. Ebay would only let me lower the Reserve to $2501 at that time. The market seems to be saying this is at least a $2500 truck. Hope this info helps. Good luck and good bidding.
