Vehicle Detail
This is a "No Reserve" auction of an unrestored 1974 Triumph T120V with 9,609 miles. This is a very rare model. It is the last of the 650cc Bonnevilles. Most people think 1972 was the last year for the 650 since Triumph came out with the 750 in 1973. However, in 1974 Triumph produced a handful of 650cc Bonnevilles. The bike shifts on the right side, brakes on the left, and has a 5 speed tranny. The purple and white paint scheme is correct and was only used on the 650cc 1974 T120V bikes. The chrome on the front rim, headlight bucket, grab rail, handlebars, and back fender are excellent for their age. It was misting rain when I took the photos, so the little specks you see on the chrome are light rain drops. The back rim is nice for its age, but has a few rust spots on it. The front fender looks nice, but has a haze on it…probably from having been cleaned with steel wool. The mufflers are original and have a few small dings and a little rust/corrosion on them. The turn signals, head light lens, and tail light lens are all original Lucas items and are in good condition. Lenses are not after-market repops. The seat is in excellent condition with no damage. Everything under the seat is original, including a tool pouch with 5 tools in it. The bike has both the original ignition key and fork lock key. The production date in the VIN # is KJ, with K designating September and J designating 1974, and the numbers match on the frame and motor. All lights work, to include the high & low headlight beams, the 3 colored indicator lights in the headlight bucket, both instrument lights, the parking light, tail light, brake light, and turn signals. Oh yes, the horn also works. The tires are Dunlop Gold Seals (made in Japan) and look like new. The front brake drags, so I'm sure the caliper needs rebuilt. The tank has been repainted the original purple and white and looks quite nice, but it is not a high dollar show quality paint job. Frame and other black parts appear to have original paint. I was looking for a reasonably priced 1970 or older Triumph project when I found this bike and thought it was just too nice to pass up. Here’s all I know about the bike. The second owner purchased this bike in 1978 and kept it for 31 years in Illinois. In 2009 he signed and dated the title and gave the bike and title to a lifelong friend who took the bike to Florida as a retirement project. The second owner has since died. The friend, who never found time to restore the bike or ride it, just let it sit for 3 years before selling it to me. He assured me it ran fine when he got it, but it won’t start now (electrical issues). It kicks over smoothly with good compression, and the carb slides move freely. It should start easily after a Boyer electronic ignition is installed, but I don’t want to go to the expense since I never planned to keep it. While the bike does comes with a clear open title, signed and dated by the owner, the owner did not have his signature notarized. (See photos). This may or may not pose an obstacle, depending on what state you live in and how friendly your local DMV representative is. Bike is offered for sale in "as-is" condition with no warranty. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and the costs associated with shipping. I will work with you or your shipper to make the bike available for pick up. A $300 deposit is required via Pay Pal within 24 hours of the end of the auction, and the balance is due within 7 days in cash or Cashiers Check drawn on a U.S. bank. Check must clear before bike can be picked up or shipped. Should you have any questions, please email me via the Ebay email system or call me at (813)727-8476. I will try to answer any questions you may have. If you’re looking for a 650 Triumph to restore, this is a very nice unmolested one to work with, and you won’t find any year & model much more unique than a 1974 T120V Bonneville.
