Vehicle Detail
This El Camino is originally from California. Still has the original one piece rear bumper. Originally came with a 235 6cyl, 3 speed, no power steering or brakes. It arrived at our shop in very good original condition but the owner wanted a 305 V8 and automatic. When that was done, he decided he needed power steering and power brakes. (Can you see where this is going?) Then he wanted it painted. This fellow was a friend of mine and I tried to explain that he should drive it as it was. He already had a nice car. The next winter, out came the engine and trans, off came all the body panels, out came the glass, off came the trim, out came the box panels, apart came the suspension etc etc. We left the body shell on the frame There were some small blisters on the rockers so they were replaced. There were several dime size holes in the drivers front floor pan. The owner said if we are replacing one floor pan he wanted them all replaced so they were even though it did not need them. This seemed to be the theme for the entire build. If there was any question of if something was needed, the owner wanted it replaced. Complete front and rear suspension was rebuilt. Rear differential was rebuilt with new gears. Front and rear brakes were rebuilt with factory parts. The 1979 305 engine and transmission were previously rebuilt so gaskets, seals and timing chain were replaced and reassembled. Radiator was recored. New performer intake and 600 edelbrock were added along with trim. Electric wiper motor assy was sent off and rebuilt. All stainless trim was sent off to be polished. The owner wasnt satisfied and had some redone. 4 pieces of the bed trim were sent to California to have dings taken out at a cost of $1200 alone. All chrome was rechromed, all rubber parts replaced, clips springs, bulbs, seals, bolts screws, etc etc etc replaced with new. It was painted Lexus pearl white. The under side and all inner panels were coated with POR-15. Reassembled with Bonneville bucket seats, tilt wheel, Customsound stereo, 65 Impala SS console and shifter, Power windows and drivers seat, power ant, overhead console, hood, gate, door handles, and fenders shaved. New wheels and tires etc. Labor cost on the entire project was $14000. (Dont ask, we are not interested in doing anymore for that price.) The cost of the vehicle to begin with was $6000. The owner suppied his own parts at a cost of over $36000. Yes, there is over $56000 invested! The owner took it home and never dared drive it for fear of scratching it. 3 years later he called and said he wanted us to buy it. His health was failing. We have owned it for about 2 years and have only put a handful of miles on it. Its time for it to go to someone who will use and enjoy it! The build was completed about 5 years ago and since then the paint on the 1/4 panels has cracked in a couple places so the 1/4s should be repainted. There is a chip in one of the 1/4s also. See photos. We have the clear title in hand in our name. A custom cover comes with the car. BTW- dont be alarmed by the drips above the windlace on the dash pic. We had just washed the car when we took the pic. it is only water drips. The loser who bid the car up to $25000 last time and retracted his bid has a bad history of bid retractions. If you are this type of buyer, DONT BID! Thank you for looking.
