Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is this very unique 1979 Dodge Ramcharger. I have owned this truck for 3 years now and have pretty much completely restored it from the ground up over that time span. I bought the truck in Georgia as a 318 powered vehicle and paid a decent price for it in order to get a clean truck. There was not much bodywork needed at all. All the exterior sheetmetal is original and in excellent condition. The truck is currently powered by a 1973 Dodge 440-3 engine that has only 33,000 miles on it. It has been in the truck for over a year now and has had about 4,000 miles put on it since the install. The engine runs very well and the truck now gets much better fuel economy than it ever did with the old worn out 318 in it. The engine has the original ThermoQuad carburetor on it, which has been rebuilt and it works perfectly, even the automatic choke. This is a farily high horsepower engine that came with a steel crankshaft and the high performance connecting rods. I had to really do some searching to find the correct parts to mate the 440 big block engine to this truck. It required some hard to find parts, such as the oil pan and pick up tube, a special truck only bell housing, engine mounts, proper dipstick and all new pulleys and brackets for the belts. The truck also has a set of brand new Hedman Hedders attached to custom built exhaust with turbo mufflers. I replaced the clutch with a new 12" Luk clutch and pressure plate. This truck is a full time 4WD vehicle. The original transfer case was worn out, so it was replaced with the same style unit out of a M37 military truck I purchased for parts. It had 60k miles on it and it works well. The original Dana 44 front axle has had all new brakes installed on it and the U-joints and ball joints replaced. The rear axle has been replaced with a little newer rear axle that has Posi Track. The gear ratio is 3.55. I have a pair of 8 lug HD 4.10 axles from the military truck to go with this Ramcharger, if the buyer wants them. They are a direct bolt in, but would require different wheels and tires. I did not see the need to change, but that was my preference. This truck has had the hood changed over to the older style "bird bath" hood. I liked that style hood better, so I made the proper modifications to the radiator support latch and installed the hood. I think it looks better personally. The exterior is painted with PPG Concept single stage with the last coat having 2002 clear integrated with it. The satin black is also PPG with flattenting agent in it to get the proper gloss level to match the Phoenix Graphics "Power Wagon" stripe kit. The interior floors are coated with spray in truck bed liner from front to back. I did not want carpet, but the buyer could easily install carpet over top of it if desired. The roof is the original steel roof shell that is completely removable all the way to the windshield. There is a "roll bar" installed in the truck, but it is strictly for looks. The seats are from a Town n Country minivan. They are beige leather and the driver's side is a power seat that is connected and functional. The rear seat folds down. The stereo system is a typical AM/FM/CD with AUX jack and there are 4 speakers. The truck is drivable and we use it on a regular basis. The tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Claws with about 50% tread left. They are 35" tires. The truck has a 4" suspension lift in it (the better spring kit, not the one with blocks). New Parts we installed: Complete brakes, front and rear New front axle joints PosiTrac rear axle New aluminum radiator water pump fuel pump clutch assembly U joints 4" Lift kit with springs Shocks Brake lines and hoses low mileage used transfer case Low mileage used 440 engine New electronic distributor and complete new tuneup with 8mm wires all new hoses clamps etc new pulleys and brackets new engine mounts rebuilt steering box new steering arm new power steering hoses new master cylinder and booster new calipers and wheel cylinders new door weatherstrips and window felts new bikini top dash pad and door trim panels refurbished Basically, the truck is about new top to bottom. It is in excellent condition and runs, handles, stops and drives well. It also looks great standing still, even up close. Right now the truck needs the fuel sender unit rebuilt because the gas gauge quit working. Other than that is it good to go. Terms: Truck is sold in the AS IS / Where Is condition with no warranty expressed or implied whatsoever. Buyer is totally responsible for transportation. I have a clear KY title in my personal name. You have to have a PayPal account in order to bid. If you do not have one, call me and I can put you on an approved bidder list. The truck is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction AT ANY TIME for a local sale. I will accept PayPal for the deposit and I also take major credit cards through my marine business. I expect the balance to be paid within 7 days of the close of auction, period. No exceptions. Payment is required to be in cash, certified bank check, bank wire transfer or credit card (with a convienience fee added). If the buyer is a KY resident, we will go directly to the courthouse when you pick the truck up to complete the transfer into your name. Be prepared to pay the appropriate taxes and license fees. Vehicle is currently registered with an antique vehicle license plate. I have no problem with keeping the truck here in my fenced lot for up to 30 days while you arrange shipping.... BUT... it has to be paid for IN FULL within the original 7 day limit in these terms above. This is a 34 year old vehicle. It will not be perfect. Right now the gas gauge and horn do not work and the seatbelts are iffy. None of that stuff really bothered me and I am working on other projects. This is a link to my photobucket account where the full sized pictures are. If you go there, you will also see the pictures of the truck and what it looked like when I bought it. http://photobucket.com/79ramcharger
