Vehicle Detail

This 1972 El Camino Custom was purchased new by the Rodeo Legend, Buster Ivory and was used sparingly on his Ranch in Pampa, Texas where it remained until his death in March 2003. The name Buster Ivory is synonymous with Rodeo. Mr. Ivory was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Alturas, Calif. and married June Bull on July 29, 1954, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He entered his first rodeo at MacArthur, Calif., in 1938 at the age of 15. He incorporated the Rodeo Cowboys Association, and negotiated and signed rodeo's first TV contract. He was selected as the 1978 Rodeo Man of the Year and was National Finals livestock superintendent for its first 26 consecutive years. He was a two-time Hall-of-Famer; 1990 Rodeo Historical Society/National Cowboy Hall of Fame at Oklahoma City, 1991 Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame at Colorado Springs, Colo., and was selected as the 1999 recipient of the prestigious Ben Johnson Award. He was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame/Rodeo Historical Society of Oklahoma City in 1990; inducted as a notable into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs in 1991; and was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2001. He competed in saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding and team roping at major rodeos. He finished several times in the top six saddle bronc riders for World Championship honors. He retired in 1968 and finished his 30-year career as first-place winner in the saddle bronc riding. He joined the Cowboys Turtle Association, the first professional rodeo association in 1938, and had remained a member of the associations of professional rodeo for 64 years. The truck was purchased by a Pampa resident from Mr. Ivory’s wife, June, in September 2003 and a short time later was sold to a buyer in Duluth, Georgia who had stored the truck until I purchased it in 2009. The truck retains its original and numbers matching 350 V8 4 bbl. and options include Turbo Hydra-matic Transmission, cold Factory Four-Season Air Conditioning, AM Radio, factory Floor Mats, Power Front Disc brakes (drum rear; all new and rebuilt) and Power Steering. The Factory Build Sheet, included with sale as well as original manuals and other paperwork, shows delivery to Hudiburg Chevrolet in Amarillo, TX. The truck was originally the rare two-tone white body with golf green top and bed. The truck was completely dismantled, including all glass and was stripped to bare metal and painted Vapor Silver Clear coat Metallic, a beautiful and unique 2009 Mustang Color. This included the cowl, floorboards and, of course, the door jams. The truck retains its original black interior. A complete Magnaflow Performance Muffler system was added as well as Cragar mags and new tires. Please note that a new headliner and carpet are included yet need to be installed and the speedometer gear also needs to be replaced. Having remained in South Texas, and rarely ever used, the truck and its bed were (and remain) absolutely straight and rust free. This is somewhat unusual for these old El Caminos that were generally used for work trucks. The resulting restoration results in a truck that is much more beautiful than the pictures show. Over $20,000 was spent on restoration that was completed in 2011 but unfortunately, I need to reduce my collection. On Jan-09-13 at 18:37:48 PST, seller added the following information: I have had a couple of questions about the body work. The quarter panels are completely original and had no rust or dents when stripped. There is absolutely no bondo anywhere on the truck. The area under the rear window of the '68-'72 El Caminos are notorious for rust issues. That area on this truck had minimal rust and during the restoration, the entire panel and inside window shelf were replaced. The photos were taken on a cloudy day and do not show the beauty of the highly metallic color. The Auction Reserve is nearly met as it is no where near the Restoration Cost....my loss is your gain!
