Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1973 International 1210 crew-cab pickup. Also dubbed the "Travelette", these trucks were the front-runners of all of those extended cab pickups on the road today. Now, when you think of the name "International", the first thing to pop into your head is probably "farm truck". I won't lie, that is exactly what this truck was, and the PTO is on the back to prove it, along with the factory 4-wheel drive and original 345 engine. While this truck was primarily intended as a farm truck, IH still added some "frills", including the "deluxe" interior. This interior option included fabric/vinyl seats (as opposed to just vinyl) and vinyl door coverings to match (the trucks with out the deluxe interior were just all metal). To be honest again, these trucks went through a lot of use, and the seats tended to show wear over time, including tears and rips. The truck you are currently viewing has an almost 100% complete interior (missing the shift pattern decal as of 9/19/12, but I am actively looking for one, and will include it if I can get it by the time the auction ends), and it looks as good as it did 39 years ago. These trucks are total troopers. I purchased this baby in the winter, and even though she was an old truck with over 162,000 miles on her, I was still able to start her up and drive her home. With a little bit of TLC, she is running great, everything works as it should, and she has no problems reaching highway speeds. To give you a little background on me, I am a 37 year old body guy with over 20 years of experience, of which includes a total of 4 IHs (counting this one). Everything that was done on this truck was done by myself. Now, for what you're all dying to know, what's been done, and the highlights.... Motor: - New Holley 600 2 bbl. carb. - All new belts/hoses/spark plug wires. - ORIGINAL 345 engine. NOT rebuilt based on the results of a leak-down test, which told me that the "guts" of the motor were fine. - All new gaskets throughout. - New water pump. - NOS IH engine mounts installed. - New thermostat. - Timing gears inspected (this is not a chain drive motor). - Motor painted with high-temp engine paint. Drivetrain: - Dana 44 front drive axle - rebuilt (new seals & spider gears). - Transmission transfercase Dana 60 rearend- inspected and fluids changed - all works well. - Rear output PTO works well. - All new U-joints, other than the good ones on the PTO. - 5 speed manual transmission. Fuel System: - Gas tanks (this baby has 2 of them!) coated. *See note at the end of this section. - All new fuel lines & vent lines. - Glass fuel filter with replaceable element. *Note: I was unable to find the "correct" hardware for the dual gas tanks, but I installed a transfer pump that moves fuel from the tank on the passenger side to the tank on the drivers' side and it works like a charm. Interior: - New (aftermarket) carpet. - Rear seat looks great, front shows a little bit of sun fade and wear, but looks great as well. - Door panels, head liner, sunvisors, steering wheel, and dash panels were all restored with the Dupont Vinyl line to a like new condition. Dash pad looks like new! Body: - ALL body panels were stripped to bare metal. I sandblasted as needed, or cut out and replaced. - New front floor boards, rockers (inner AND outer), and cab mounts. - All new rubber body mounts. - New cab corners. - All body panels were coated in epoxy primer to prevent corrosion before traditional priming and painting. - Inner fenders and core support came off of a Cali truck with zero rust. These were sandblasted and painted eggshell black, like the original. - Excellent shape original front chrome bumper. - NOS chrome gas tank caps. Electrical: - New light bulbs throughout. - Wiring inspected (never been chopped up). - Terminal ends cleaned. - New Interstate battery. This truck does have an option and space for a second battery. I chose to only put one in, and it does just fine. - Installed a new Kenwood CD player with Kicker 6x9 speakers under the rear seat. No holes were cut in factory panels for the speaker upgrade. I also installed a windshield mount FM antenna. - This truck has exterior factory option cab lights. - New sending unit was put in the primary fuel tank, but for some reason it only reads 3/4 of a tank when full. However, when empty, it's on E. Glass: - All original glass. - Front and rear window seals are original and look good (not all cracked up) - Window regulators cleaned and lubed. - Rear door windows are kind of hard to roll both up and down, and both rear doors are tight when opening and closing. These issues are due entirely to lack of use. - Front windshield and smokers window seals in the front doors DO leak some when either power washing or in a heavy rain. A glass guy could fix this, I just chose not to since it's either inside or only driven on nice days. Paint: - Frame painted with Chassis Saver / rust inhibiting paint and undercoated. - Cab interior was primed and then painted with single stage (as was original). - Exterior painted with Dupont Chromabase & Dupont Clearcoat (a base-clear method found on today's vehicles). Thank you in advance for taking the time to check this out. This truck will truly make someone VERY happy. If you would like to see this truck in person, feel free to send me an email, and we can arrange it. This truck IS for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.
