This is a 1974 VW Thing with a ground up restoration to closely resemble its predecessor the German WWII Kubelwagen. It has been featured in the VW Thing/Type 181 magazine. It was a Katrina survivor that I acquired after the storm and restored it to near new condition. I use for reenactments but I've gotten too old. I am a History buff and acquired some original Kubelwagen items for the vehicle. During the restoration process it was thoroughly cleaned, a completely rebuilt engine installed, all electrical connections replaced, rebuilt speedometer/gas gauge installed, new brakes and brake lines, new tires, rebuilt windshield assembly, rebuilt wiper motor and blades, new unique camouflage top, new gas tank and float, body repaired, painted with the Normandy WWII camouflage paint job, new glove box, new center console, new am/fm radio and antenna added, "duck" boards added, era horn body, a siren with four sounds, a whip antenna with Fallschirmjager flag, two replica era type headlights with covers, a gun rack, rear speakers, simulated spot light, convertible top hold downs, and a WWII era Wermacht license plate (Munich Area). Authentic items are: four restored WWII German army gas and water cans, a blackout drive light, and an authentic German Pioneer shovel. It is also equipped with new" drop in" Thing windows .See the photos. It is a real head turner. See the photos.
