Vehicle Detail

1948 INTERNATIONAL KB - 5 GRAIN TRUCKJust in case you didn't get that certain something under the tree this year, here's your chance to re-coup some of that holiday magic. Up for bid is this IH KB-5 grain truck that has been in the family since the mid 1960's when my Dad got it to use on the family farm as a third grain truck for harvest season. He bought it from a family that had used it to move here from Oklahoma. It is pretty much all original except for the engine which was replaced soon after Dad got it with a six cylinder engine with a little more power than the original. I think it is a straight six GM engine from a school bus. Used to run fine, but, probably needs to be re-built or replaced now. The last time this truck was used was in 1982 and the last time I had it running was about 10 years ago when I had the master brake cylinder replaced. It has always been stored inside and I have given up on trying to find time to restore it myself. The body and frame metal is solid throughout. All straight with minor dings here and there. When I took the pictures I didn't realize that the hood was not in the latched position, hence, the gap you see between hood and frame. It has a nice, true fit when completely closed. The white paint you see on the truck is barn paint I was using to paint the grainery one year. While I was up on a ladder my young son thought it would be a good idea to paint the truck. So he did. Unfortunate, but, it really doesn't hurt anything as whoever buys this gem will need to strip and re-paint anyway. It has a four speed manual transmission with a two speed axel. Nothing more pleasing than a perfectly executed "double clutch" shift to impress whoever you're trying to impress. The brake master cylinder has been replaced as I said, but, something is amiss elsewhere in the brake system as I'm not getting any brake pressure now. The bed is a standard grain bed with hydraulic hoist and a metal floor that is in good condition. The tailgate is missing and must have been used for something else as no one seems to know what became of it. The electrical system was converted to a 12 volt system when the engine was replaced. Everything was working fine, but, has been sitting a long time and undoubtedly needs some TLC now. Note the nifty "arrow" turn signals on the fenders and on the rear. No battery included. All the glass is good except for the passenger window which is cracked but solid. All the door handles, knobs etc. are there except for the horn button in the steering wheel. The front window cranks out to allow fresh air and dirt into the cabin. Didn't use that feature much. It does have the air scoop just in front of the windshield which we did use a lot. Actual mileage is uncertain. I put in 70,000 because eBay needed a number. I can't read the odometer. All in all, a very restorable truck. Certainly was a head turner and conversation piece wherever we went with it. You will need a large trailer to transport. I have a tractor to help with loading if necessary.Send any questions you have via eBay mail/messages. I'll try to get back with an answer promptly. This truck is SOLD AS IS.
