Vehicle Detail
Mechanically sound, stock, 1989 Mustang GT convertible. Engine is 5.0 V8 (not modified), and it has a 5-speed manual transmission. Shifts very smoothly, and driveline overall feels very good; clutch is strong. The shifter action is very precise and smooth. I owned a 2000 Miata in the past, and can honestly say I prefer the action of the Mustang's shifter over the Mazda. Car has white top in great condition with glass rear window and white leather seats. Overall condition for the car is very good, with the interior and exterior in very good shape. The car runs and drives great, and sounds fantastic. Surprisingly for a car this age, there are really no rattles, squeaks, etc, and the ride quality is very good; the frame stiffeners really help control cowl shake. The car is a very comfortable cruiser, but if you choose to wake up the V8, it performs just as you would think it would. Very little wind buffeting with the top down as well. Clear title. New wheels and tires also. Here is a list of the services/upgrades that have been done recently:New wheels and tires, 17" Mustang Cobra R (chrome) with Nitto tires ($1,250 package)Tire tread is like newStainless steel Flowmaster exhaustSteeda subframe connectorValve cover gaskets, pinion seal, and rear main seal replacedNew motor mountsNew battery and alternatorFord 3.73 gears in rear endNew front rotors and padsNew Kenwood stereo and professionally-installed Infinity speakersCurrent safety and emissions inspectionNew front wheel bearings Of course, it needs a few more things to do if you want to make it 100%.... Currently, the heater core is bypassed, so that would need to be replaced at some point (I have a new Ford OEM heater core that will go with the car). The catalytic converters were removed when the new exhaust was installed, so those could be replaced (I have a brand new set of Pypes high flow cats that will go with the car as well). As seems to be normal with these cars, some of the window switches and electric door lock switches are worn out. Overall, a very good car that can be enjoyed exactly as it sits right now. I have all the receipts for the work listed above, as well as much of the original paperwork (owner's manual, warranty papers, operating guide, original registration and insurance certificate, and metal VIN card for warranty identification). Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I am in Northern Virginia, but would help to accommodate logistical / transportation arrangements as possible. On Dec-25-12 at 11:34:45 PST, seller added the following information: Update..Merry Christmas; people have asked for details about the electric windows and switches that I mentioned in the initial posting...all the windows go up and down except right rear quarter. When you press the switch, the voltage drops, but it doesn't go. Passenger's window switch doesn't work, but that window can be controlled from the driver's side, and it works fine. Front seat belts don't retract all the way as is usual for these cars....easy to work around or could be replaced. On Dec-25-12 at 12:01:22 PST, seller added the following information: A also had some questions on the top and the paint. The top is in excellent condition, and I am including some close-up photos of it and the glass rear window. I'm also including some additional close-up photos of the paint. As expected, there are some dings and chips, but overall it's very good. On the front of the hood, there is a little bubbling of the paint there. If there are still more detailed photos needed, please let me know....thanks for looking...On Dec-26-12 at 17:17:52 PST, seller added the following information: Hey everyone....had a couple of questions about how the car runs, so I thought a good way to show that would be to do a cold start. So, the car has been sitting in the carport since yesterday, it's 40 degrees right now, and the weather's been a wintry snow/sleet/ice mix all day. I don't rev the car much since the engine is cold. Hopefully this youtube link works. You will see that my strength is not in making videos, but hopefully it'll give you an idea. All the dash lights come on before the car starts, and they all go out like they should once it's running..... Thanks for looking. Here's the link to the youtube video... http://youtu.be/tTmJ_2PlY6g On Dec-28-12 at 14:12:47 PST, seller added the following information: Hey everybody....this'll be my last update, as there are only two days left in the auction. Thanks everyone for your interest. To help things along, I've lowered the buy it now price, and I've also lowered the reserve price for the auction. Three final notes for everyone.....first, I've had some questions about the operation of the top, so I've posted a youtube video to show the top going up and down. You can see it at http://youtu.be/MdaKXg4sdr4 and you'll see the top works just fine. Last two items...I believe the A/C needs to be recharged (and yes, it has been converted to R134a, so that's one less thing to do), and there is a very slight gap between the front passenger side window and the rear quarter window towards the top...I have a photo but I've run out of space. Can send it to you if you would like to see. It's about an eighth of an inch at the top. I am listing the car locally and will pull the ad if it sells through one of those avenues. Please remember that the receipts for all the work done in the past year add up to $4,284, so all the big work is done, and the price is not much above all the work that's been done.... Thanks for looking, and Happy New Year!
