Vehicle Detail
1937 Plymouth PT50 1/2 ton Pickup with short bed. This is a project truck that needs total restoration. This truck is extremely rare especially with the overall condition and how complete it is. For the photos, the bed and rear fenders are temporarily bolted on. I guess the truck has been in Florida all its life until a few weeks ago. It was used at a local business for parades and advertising from 1970 through the mid 80's. At some point in the 80's I was told, the motor was prepared for storage and sheet metal removal was started in preparation for paint and body work. Things happened along the way and the project was put on hold... for the last 30 years or so. I have no idea how many miles the truck may have on it as the speedo was changed along the way. The original motor, tranny rear end, steering column and fuel cell were installed at some point in the 70's. The only apparent rust that needs to be removed is in the floor of the cab. The truck has a Florida title from 1980. The serial number of the truck reveals it was made at the Detroit Michigan plant and was build number 9,130 in 1937. There were only 11,564 Plymouth PT50's made at the Detroit plant in 37! Along with 2,487 made in Evansville and 1,513 in LA. That makes this truck one of only 15,564 Plymouth trucks made in 1937! This truck is all original except for the engine (1976 Chrysler 360) the 727 automatic transmission, rear end and fuel cell. The engine appears to be complete from Carb, to starter. The coolant has been drained but there is still clean looking oil in the crankcase and fluid in the tranny. I'm told it was driven to the body shop. It appears with coolant added it would be ready to drop a battery in and crank. I would think you would first want to prime the oil pump before cranking (I don't have the tool for that) and I would've tried to crank it by hand--but I didn't have socket big enough to fit the crank pulley bolt. It is bigger than 1 1/8". The steering setup is manual and looks like it was taken from a 70--80's Oldsmobile. The parts I have for this truck can be seen in the pictures and will be included in the auction. If you don't see it in the pictures, better ask, I probably don't have it. This truck is 98% complete and very rare. It is an excellent builder needing little rust repair. There are very few parts to track down and most of what you would want is already included in the auction. Please email with any questions. It is currently secured in a shop and only rolled out for the photos. I will help with loading the vehicle here. We could deliver within a few hundred miles for a small fee plus fuel cost. There are no warranties express or implied. Vehicle is as is. I also reserve the right to end this auction at anytime as it is also listed locally. Please only bid if you are serious and any non-paying winners will be reported through eBay. We are serious sellers and want the potential buyers to be serious as well. Power Train: * 1970's Chrysler 360 engine – 727? (14 bolt pan) transmission. * alt, wiring harness, plug wire separators. * Has a later model radiator with a clutch fan * Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds * I'm guessing a Chrysler 8.25", it is an open rear end. (tag on rear cover bolt reads 2:71) Interior: - There is still headliner in the cab and back of cab has carpet(looks like from the 80's). - Have all interior window trim. Passenger side window regulator works, driver side is missing. - SW gauges look like 1980 models but they include Speedometer, temp, oil, fuel and amp meter. - There is a Sun Tachometer mounted in the visor area. - Steering column I believe is Oldsmobile. - An old under dash Air conditioning unit. - Shifter is on the column, ignition on dash. - Radio. - Seat bottom and back are gone. - The windshield frame and hinges are great, the windshield crank and regulator are missing. - Still has the original cowl vent. Exterior: - The hood ornament is there but broken. The grille and hood side trim is present. - All steel original metal is in great shape, doors are great with no rust through inside or out--even the bottom of the doors are nice and solid. - Bed sides and stake pockets are great too. There has been a piece of metal welded over the original bed floor. - Has the original Plymouth script tailgate and chains. - Supposedly the body work has been done on the Cab, doors, front fenders and radiator shell and they are painted with a two stage base color coat from years past. Clear was never applied. The hood, bed, rear fenders and tail gate are still in primer. - Aluminum Wheels are 15" from a mid 80's Mercury. Tires are P215/70 R15 Michelin Radials that look new. Suspension: - Original frame w/brake and fuel lines. - Original straight axle and leaf springs in front, Leaf springs on rear with AC Delco air shocks. - Brakes are Drum front and rear, with two stage manual master cylinder mounted on fire wall. - 15 gallon gas tank mounted flush under rear of bed. Any questions please email. Good luck bidding. Now the fine print: Please do not bid unless you agree to our payment and shipping terms. By bidding, you are agreeing to these terms.
