This 1966 bus was restored from ground up, I paid $4300 for the shell, the engine was in the area of back seats, BUT it is the original engine and transaxle, very very rare to find a VW with the original drive train, I proceeded to gut the vehicle down to bare metal, removed every bit of rust, areas that were slightly rusted through I cut it out and replaced with sheer metal from wolfsburg west, the areas that had waves in it we heated up and straightened them out , This bus has at the most spot puddy, no bondo and is straighter then the day it rolled off the show room floor, 2 years alone in the straightning of the body along with the window frames; they had rust on them so I pulled them out and hand made everyone fitted brand new rubber through out the hole bus, we also have extra rubber that goes with the bus, We rebuilt the engine, transaxle which is not a freeway flyer, top speed is 72 mph cruzing speed 63mph everyone wizzes by me with the thumbs up. it is such a blast to drive. words just cannot express it. I went through the brakes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, This bus has been gone through completely, and there is a ton of things I have done to this bus that would take page after page, The devil is in the detail... I have 95% of the bus completed, do not have the back seats, which is not hard to find and only a thousand to buy and re upholster I also put rebuilt speedometer gas gauge ,radio, no clock oh the trim I have several pieces but not the hole set, and several window latches, I seen a bus on barrett jackson auction sell for $107,000.00 and had bondo on it, this one is near mint condition, I put all rubber floor mates then I decided to lay brand new carpet kit down on top of it, you see what I mean about the devil in the detail. 21 window busses are so incredibly hard to find, these days but to find one that is a walk through is just about impossible, and this is one it is a daily driver , We even did a photo shoot for a local band in encinitas that put the bus and the band on the cover of their album cover how cool is that, to top it off my last bus premeier productions the movie company purchased my last bus to put in a prudential life insurance company commercial, and this bus puts that one to shame, I planned on keeping this one, that is why I went all out on the body, but I have to liquidate my assets in order to buy me and my children a home, single father of 7 and this is the best thing for me , some day I will build another , my children come first, so who ever wins this bus will straight come up like the sun, buy a car these days and drive it off the lot you automatically loose 20% of its value. this vehicle will only increase in value every year, registation $60 thats nothing gas milage 35 mpg.
