Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE A well maintained 1989 BMW (E30) 325i convertible in Zinnoberrot/aka Cinnabar Red with tan interior in superb condition. This car was first delivered in Encinitas, CA has been in rust free Southern California since new with only 2 documented family owners, until I purchased it in October 2012. The second owner, a Mexican citizen was unable to import the car into Mexico. For over 3 years, it was stored the car at his sister’s house in Capistrano Beach, CA and seldom driven. Overall the car only accumulated a little over 500 miles since the second owner’s purchase in 2008 and my purchase last October. Outside storage destroyed the convertible top, which is now replaced. Otherwise, the paint cleaned up very nicely with simple buffing and the leather interior and carpeting required only minor repairs and cleaning. This car has been well maintained and service and repair records of the first owners are included, as are the receipts for the new top and radio and more. The original BMW non-working radio and amplifier are also included. It now has 4 channel 320 watt, iPod compatible radio that is assuredly better than the factory one, while looking very factory like. Otherwise the car is completely stock with the 4-speed auto transmission, ABS, power windows, door locks and all other standard features for 1989 convertibles. The convertible top is manual, not powered, but is very simple operate following the instructions in the factory manual. That manual, the original window sticker, service, warranty booklets and extensive maintenance and repair receipts are also included. Flaws are very few. The air conditioner is the original R12 system and needs charging, which is not possible in CA without converting to R134 refrigerant and possibly unnecessary depending the state laws of a new owner. The factory aluminum wheels were chromed and the chrome is deteriorating in some areas—see photos. The wheels are presentable for regular driver use, but are not show quality, and new hood insulation is needed. Also, there are a few very minor/barely noticeable, dings in the car easily corrected with paintless dent removal services, if desired, and a slight paint blemish (scratch repair) on the rear deck lid. The E30 series BMWs—1984 to 1993—are regarded by many as the best of the 3 series as demonstrated in their rapidly increasing collector car status and value appreciation. Two convertibles just sold at the November 2012 McCormicks Palm Springs, CA auction—a ’90 for $6280 and an ’88 for $7140. The condition of this car is very competitive with those sold at the auction and the reserve is set lower. It is a very solid and clean #3 condition driver—the use BMWs were built for, and in which they excel. All inspections and questions are welcome.
