Vehicle Detail
Small Package, Big Heart: 1975 Chevrolet Monza 350 V8! Based on the Chevrolet Vega and sharing its wheelbase, the Chevrolet Monza was nicknamed the Italian Vega by no other than John Delorean, reportedly due to its strong resemblance to the Ferrari 365 GTC/4. Initially designed to be powered by a newly develped rotary engine, the idea was eventually dismissed in favor of the tried and true pushrod engines from the General's shelf. An array of engines was available to power the Monza: 151 cu in (2.5 L) I4 196 cu in (3.2 L) V6 231 cu in (3.8 L) V6 262 cu in (4.3 L) V8 305 cu in (5.0 L) V8 350 cu in (5.7 L) V8 Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The largest and most powerful engine -- the 350-V8 -- was only available Monzas that sold in California high altitude areas where meeting the strict emission standards required a larger, less strained engine. Even there, it was only available during the Monza's first year of production, 1975. This Monza is equipped with a stout TH-350 automatic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, and an advanced 4-link rear suspension with Panhard bar and torque arm that was later used in the 3rd generation Camaro. Hard to find such a car today? You bet! Here's one! Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) With only 57,972 miles on the odometer, this Monza has been a lifelong SoCal resident. Being a 1975 model, it is now smog exempt in the Golden State and thus offers countless opportunities to increase the power output even further. One change that already helped performance -- a lot -- was replacing the stock 2-barrel carburetor with a 4-barrel Quadrajet. Another meaningful change was the switch from cast iron exhaust manifolds to headers. Otherwise, the engine seems stock, yet has been visually enhanced by braided hoses, a chromed air cleaner, and new high performance spark plug wires. The engine runs perfectly, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink oil, and shows no signs of any potential issues. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Most Monzas were Hatchback Coupes, only a few, such as this one, were ordered as "Towne Coupes." This body style provides sufficient space for rear passengers, so if you have a couple of li'l ones in your family, this car will fit the bill perfectly. Note the nicely polished mag wheels, shod with 205/60R13 radials up front and 215/60R13s out back. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Painted silver metallic, this Monza originally had a vinyl roof that was removed by the previous owner. Installing a new vinyl roof would surely improve the looks of this rare car. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Moving on to the interior, we find that it provides plenty of space, even for long legged pilots and co-pilots. The dash is not unlike that of a contemporary Camaro, and it's perfectly crack free, guaranteed! Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) All of the gauges work, all of the lights work . . . in fact, everything on this car works as it should! Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Front seats are beautifully preserved; there are no rips, tears, or any imperfections worthy of that name. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The same applies to the two rear seats. In fact, they look like they have not been used much at all. Everything is very clean and tidy. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) This Monza comes with current California registration and a set of current California license plates, not the vanity plates shown. You can hop in and drive it home, across the country if that's where you live. It really runs and drives that good! Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Cavernous, rust-free trunk holds the stock mufflers, a couple of extra air cleaners, a gallon of engine oil, and a sport steering wheel, all of which is included in the sale of this car. Being from dry California, the Monza's undercarriage is perfectly rust free. No undercoating or spray can artistry of any kind was necessary to hide anything. Notice dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers. It's rare, too; you'll definitely not see another one on your street!
