Vehicle Detail
1995 Toyota 4runner that has been changed to a 1KZ-TE Turbo diesel from Japan. It has fantastic power for what it is and moves the 4runner much better than the V6 or 4 cylinder gas choices. These engines are all over the world except in North America. Very popular in other parts of the world and range from 1993 onwards of 2003 and are in trucks, 4runners (sometimes called a Surf), vans, and more. It is a 3.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo and is mated to the proper 4 speed automatic transmission that came with the engine. The engine was imported via Jarco Motors in Georgia as a half cut and was sent to Alabama for installation into this 4runner. The 4runner is a Colorado native and was shipped to Alabama for the conversion. It began life as a 3.0 V6 gasoline engine and was changed to the 3.0 inline 4 diesel and then driven home to Colorado. The conversion was done by the previous owner and cost upwards of $15,000. The shop was called Venture Racing and they have accomplished many conversions- gas and diesel. I spoke with them about this 4runner and they were pleased to have their name mentioned in the sale of the 4runner. Under the hood: The engine has just over 110,000 miles on it and had around 60,000 on it when installed into the 4runner. It came from a half cut and all parts were installed including the correct brake booster, computer, dual batteries, etc. It had all maintenance done at install and needed nothing other than maintenance until I got it in 2010. Early this year I replaced the timing belt, timing belt tensioner (Toyota parts from Japan), radiator hoses, radiator (from another Toyota diesel with much lower mileage and age- fits perfect and looks great). In the last 6 months I have replaced the front shocks (Bilsteins), front rotors and pads, front wheel bearings, front left cv joint/half shaft axle, rear shocks (Rancho), and replaced the rear springs with Performance Products progressive rate coils. It runs very well and starts exactly the same every time, hot, cold, at elevation, after long drives etc. and has never ceased to start. Everything that was originally designed for the engine works; glow plugs, glow plug timer (has the light on the dash), idle up, ECT button for the transmission, overdrive off button, tachometer, and all other gauges. It has aftermarket cruise control that works. A turbo timer is installed as well that additionally shows the current alternator output and is adjustable so you can remove the key and leave it running for 30 seconds up to 8 minutes I believe. It also has a heated fuel system and filter; the lines and filter are electric heat and the tank is heated with coolant from the rear heater in the 4runner cab. There is a switch on the dash for the electric elements and a valve underneath the 4runner to turn off the flow of coolant if desired. This was installed to allow bio diesel use more reliably in the winter. I have not used it other than to test it. I have used bio diesel in the summer and it worked great. The air conditioning works very well as does the heater. The power steering box has a minor oil leak that has remained the same ever since I have owned it and does not go low on fluid but seeps a little bit. The automatic transmission works very well and contrary to most desires- it is a fantastic match to this engine with the turbo. It rarely has any turbo lag and shifts through the gears quickly and without spool down of the turbo which is nice. It accelerates quite well and is super nice and easy to drive slow or fast, in the hills, towing trailers, off road; whatever. The torque converter locks as expected in overdrive and the overdrive off function is nice. Never had any problems with the transmission. The transfer case is the correct one that came with the engine and transmission and is electronic shift on the fly for high range with the button on the lever, and low range is achieved with the actual lever. Works fine and the indicator light works on the dash. The interior is super nice. The front seats have been recovered with leather and heated elements added so the front seats are heated. Rear seats are stock leather. Carpet is in nice condition as is the rest of the interior minus a couple cracks on the dash. The shifter assembly was gray from the half cut and without luck sourcing a tan shifter, the gray one was painted tan. It looked great for a long time but has started to wear through. Many people would not notice. The CD player is a cheaper type though works good. The power antenna has been replaced and functions. Power locks work. All power windows work though sometimes the rears are slow. The rear power tailgate window works well. The exterior is black and shows some scratches, though when clean it really looks nice. The tailgate was replaced by me with another black tailgate and is in good condition. The right rear corner of the 4runner has been painted. Not sure why. It does not show up on a Car Fax report and most eyes would not notice the paint work but I can tell when it is clean. Looks fine and there are no ill fitting seams, leaks, or any evidence of damage underneath or anywhere else. I replaced the hood with another stock black hood as the original had the clear coat peeling and opted to find another hood rather than repaint the hood and not have it match. The tires are Cooper Discoverer AT tires and have lots of tread left. They look nice and are 31 10.5 15 tires on the factory 4runner alloy wheels. The 4runner flies up hills with ease even in the Colorado mountains, tows trailers easy, loves to putt along on old mountain passes in 4 wheel drive low range, and does anything without complaining. Never had any problems with it. 4x4 works great in the snow as well. I have averaged 22 mpg and have gotten 24.5 on the high end. Please ask any questions prior to bidding, but PLEASE don't ask questions that are answered in the above description. If you need to know why I am selling- well, because Im not rich and can't keep all my toys. Thanks for your interest in this awesome, rare, reliable 4runner diesel. I have a clean Colorado title in my name that does designate DIESEL as the fuel type. There are many people who have this engine registered in other states, but please research the regulations where you live, as I do not know any state rules other than where I live and cannot advise accurately what it will take to register it anywhere else. Update: I am receiving scams. At my discretion I would prefer to deal with people who have history on Ebay as this is not for fun and I do not want tire kickers. Please only contact me if you have a ebay history of 15 or more transactions or if you do not, please tell me that you are a serious buyer before asking silly questions. Tonight it is too dark to snap more pictures that people have requested, and I will do so tomorrow, Tuesday. Thanks!! On Oct-11-12 at 19:05:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Please view the added pictures of the underside. The last picture shows the power steering pump seep. I referred to it above as the power steering box, though it is the pump. I have taken more pictures but I am up to my allotted number by ebay, so I will make a picture reference page soon with more to view. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. I encourage inspections and viewings prior to the auction end. Thanks!
