Vehicle Detail
Very sweet, straight, stock, well-maintained, great-running, reliable, daily-driver example of a 1960 AMC Rambler Super Cross Country Station Wagon. This beauty was a commuter car for years in Utah. It was driven almost every day and kept in tip-top mechanical shape to meet the needs of frequent use. Running gear consists of a stock 195CID (I believe) OHV Inline Six connected to the original three on the tree manual transmission. Drive shaft is an enclosed type inside a torque tube running to the stock rear differential. Anything and everything mechanical (engine, transmission, drive line, steering, brakes, etc.) is completely, totally and thoroughly stock and original. The only concession to modernity is a freshly rebuilt 12 volt alternator in place of the low output 12 volt generator. Battery is near new as well. Plus it drives wonderfully. She starts, idles, accelerates, shifts, cruises, turns, brakes and stops so well it's difficult to believe you are in a 52 year old automobile. Interior is also in very good shape. What makes it special is it's completeness. All hard-to-find trim pieces are in place (see pics) other than the radio. And just look at that beautiful dash board. Headliner and door/side panels show use but are still there and doing their job. I like them with their 50 plus years of patina. Seat upholstery is brand new and done to a very high standard by professionals at a leading upholstery shop in town. Lights, wipers, heater, idiot lights, below dash gauges, etc. all work. Fuel gauge, speedometer, odometer, and analog clock in front of passenger do not but sure look good. The floorboards have been repaired where necessary by a top-notch sheet metal specialist. Carpet was removed for this process and not replaced. Floorboards have been rust-proofed and seal-coated from above and below to preserve them regardless of your climate. The exterior has seen one ancient respray at some point. All the very hard-to-find exterior trim is still on the car and in great shape. Glass is all good; windows roll up and down properly. Fenders, hood, doors, inner panels, roof, quarter panels, and tail gate are very solid. It looks like it has never been in an accident; not even a fender-bender as far as I can tell. Only one minor, easily repairable crease can be found on the left front fender (see pics). Typical rust can be found in some of the body channels underneath but all areas have been treated inside and out prior to floorboard repair to stop it's progression. This is just a cool, low-maintenance, practical, unique ride. AMC/Rambler was a leader in it's market niche from the mid-50's through the later 60's. They were the first US auto manufacturer to focus primarily on smaller cars (for the time... some would certainly be large by today's standards) when the Big Three were mostly making big land yachts. Google them, you will discover the history that makes these cars so special. Personally, I think it's a pretty awesome set of wheels and will be sad to see it go. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have tons of additional pics. Please send me a non-Ebay email address and I will get them to you promptly. This beauty is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, UT (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest. On Nov-14-12 at 07:25:30 PST, seller added the following information: Two very sharp Rambler experts pointed out an important error in my ad. Here are their messages... "Model 5918-1. You have a 1959 not a 1960 Rambler. Hope this helps." "1960 had a different front and rear end (especially the tail lights)." So it looks like I have a 1959 Rambler Super Cross Country Station Wagon.
