Vehicle Detail
This was owned by an old man in nothern New York. He spent all his winters in Florida and this car was garaged every winter. Never driven in salt, ice, or snow. I checked it over before letting my wife use it as a summer commuter. I put a new brake master cylinder, glow plugs, and a new timing belt for "insurance" due to age. Has 55,330 miles and runs great. In this area at a 2000 foot altitude and many hills - it gets around 45 MPG on the highway and 38 MPG when driving up and down steep gravel back-roads. It would do even better in areas of lower altitude and/or less hills. Interior and exterior are good and original. Two minor issues for the interior. #1 a mouse chewed a small hole through the shift boot. #2 the headliner is gone. The OEM headliner was felt-covered cardboard and it fell out. Note that the battery is 8 years old. Still works but should be replaced. I have a Volkswagen Jetta diesel and prefer driving this Chevette. More power and better shift layout. My wife lost her job and no longer drives to work. That and not having any inside storage has me selling this car instead of leaving it outside, unused. Great driver and great collector's item.On Nov-12-12 at 16:13:47 PST, seller added the following information: Added info: I just posted some photos of areas of the car that show it's not "perfect." I had the car parked outside since last Fall. Mice have chewed some holes in the rubber shift boot as already mentioned (photo posted). Mice have also been chewing on the carpet down where your feet go. The worst is the front driver's side. The rubber floor mat mostly covers it. Also . . . the original factory paint on the top of the roof and top of the hood is getting quite oxidized.. I suspect it would buff out and look better -but that's not my thing. Car has not even been washed since I took it out of inside storage last Fall. I also noticed that that the "optional" rear window defroster has a broken wire going to it. It's the main power wire that flexes every time the hatch is opened. I've never driven this Chevette in the winter and never needed nor noticed that broken wire until now. I also noticed that after moving the car today - there are a few small "weather-cracks" in the parts of the rear tires that were touching the ground. No leaks and tread is fine but . . . the tires are old. If this is going to be a daily driver - it ought to get some new tires. Someone asked about the radio and air conditioning. The radio is the original analog AC Delco AM/FM mono (one speaker, I think). Still works fine. No AC. AC was not available on diesel Chevettes.
