Vehicle Detail
For sale is my wife's 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider (Duetto or Boat Tail). I purchased this lovely car for her for Christmas in 2004. The previous owner was a Professor at Texas Tech and owned the car since the late 70's, so it has been in Texas most of it's life (He purchased from the original owner). The car was repainted in the 70's the dark blue laquer (Alfa Correct Color, AR323 was also called, "SKIPPER BLUE") covering the original AR230 or Verde Ischia. As you can see in the pictures, the paint was applied very well an there is still a lot of shine left in it. However, the paint isn't in great shape. There is some some cracking and chipping from age. It was always my intention to repaint, but I had 3 kids instead. The body is in very good shape with only a couple very minor dings. The hood is straight, doors close with a click, no real rust issues (minor surface in a couple places). The only rear body issue is the boot lid. I rolled my Land Rover into it one rainy day and dented the tail in a couple places. Nothing structural, but it is there in the pics. The chrome is all there and is in great shape, no rust as are all the appropriate badges and symbols. Has the Nardi Torino steering wheel as seen in the pics. The tunnel, carpet is intact as original, but aging. The side sills and rear covers are also original and intact, but aging as well. The seats are in great shape, likely recovered along the way, but are nicely supportive without sag or overstuffing. No tears. Seat belts are original and functional. Dash in in very good shape as you can see in the pics. The head lamps have the Carello covers. The original trunk mat is in pretty good shape for its age. The locks, windows and releases/latches are all funtionaly correct. The top was replaced just prior to my purchase, but it still looks nearly new as it hasn't seen much sun being either down or in the garage. There is no fading in the black and the rear plastic is nearly perfect. The top will move up and down effortlessly and latches in place tightly. All the electronics are functional, low beam, high beam, turn signals, brake signal, side marker lights and dash lights. The reverse and bonnet lights are disconnected (just need to be reconnected). There are no shorts knows in the electrical system, it all works well. The blower works, although I think the heater valve needs replaced ($60). The air controls work as do the wipers (washer pump disconnected). No radio has been installed, it still has the Pininfarina cover, Nice! Instruments are all functional, Speedo, Tach, Oil Pressure, Fuel, Temp. The odometer shows 55,437, but I can't guarantee that it is correct. I was told by previous owner that Bob Fernald, ZAP Motors in Austin, TX, did all work and major maintenance on the car of previous owner. Since 2004, when I purchased the Duetto, any work has been performed by Robert and Cindy Rogers of Shade Tree Enginetrics in Nevada, TX. However, no major problems have occured since I have been owener; fluids, clutch MC, brake reservoir, tune-up, fuel filter is about all. The original engine and drive-train were pulled and replaced by a 2.0L engine and limited-slip diff from a 1974 Alfa Spider back in the 70's. At that time, Stainless headers/exhaust, hotter cam, dual 40 DCOE 32 Webers were installed along with an MSD ignition and Magnacore wires and power brake booster. The battery has been refitted to the trunk as seen in the pictures, which nicely cleans up under the hood. The Duetto sits on Cromodora 6x14's with Pirelli P600 195/60R14's (2 aging but good, 2 need replaced). This engine and drive-train run incredibly well. The engine cranks up easy when cold w/ choke, starts without throttle once warned, idles smooth with just a touch of cam lope. Revs freely and easily when asked. It pulls smooth and effortless though the entire RPM range. The jets in the Weber's have been sized to take advantage of the displacement, cam and headers. Plainly said, this car idles quietly, shifts easy, pulls smooth and maintains speed without a hitch. This car has remained in my garage or office warehouse since I have owned it. We sparsely drive it save 4th of July Parade and a few warms spring days. However, I have had a few opportunities to drive this daily over a few weeks when my other car was in the shop. It could easily be a daily driver as it is that dependable and easy to drive. You can see a YouTube video of the car at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlVDtUOBZb4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIdBvi8PsKw My name is Bryan, please email me questions as I do know the car pretty well, but sure I have missed something. I haven't seen many Duetto's for sale lately, so I know they are getting fewer and farther between. Bid now and don't let this one get away. On Nov-07-12 at 14:44:50 PST, seller added the following information:I found some more information from the previous owner confirming that he did purchase this Duetto through ZAP Motors of Austin in 1977. Conn and Bob consulted with him getting it in order. Here are more of the rebuild details: Vacuum assisted brakes, hydraulic clutch, Sperry valve job, oversized valves with porting and polishing, crank and pistons balanced, 2L transmission was completely rebuilt. He put 10k miles on the rebuilt engine and transmission and I have put about 10k on them myself, the engine and tranny should only have about 20k miles total. He had also replaced the top with a Robbins soft top in 2003. ZAP fully disassembled and repainted the frame at that time. Also, I found the original owners manual, Alfa Romeo ATE Disk Brake Manual, Koni Shock Manual, Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Technical Characteristics and Principal Inspection Specefications Manual (printed in Italy), Parts Catalog with exploded view (printed in Italy) and the Intereurope Workshop Manual. I will try to upload a pic, otherwise I can send pics of these upon request. On Nov-11-12 at 07:10:49 PST, seller added the following information: " /> "/>
