Vehicle Overview This sale is for a rare 1983 Mercedes 280SL Euro Roadster hardtop-soft top convertible with a 2.8L 6cyl engine, automatic shift transmission with only 139,000 original and actual miles. Selling only due to the fact this is an extra car we don’t use much. This car originated in Germany and brought to the U.S and San Luis Obispo in appx. 1985, where it has remained ever since. No rust, super clean undercarriage. It has passed all EOP/DOT and titled and was recently re-registered for 2012-2013 tags. Car will come with valid smog certificate. Most records since original German purchase (original vehicle handbook in German). Euro VIN WDB10704212016011. We’re a HUGE fan of Mercedes, especially these classics. This 280SL is the first one of 5 we've own. This was my personal vehicle that I drove and though not a perfect, or flawless car, a truly amazing car in overall good condition that drives great. Only two owners since new—including myself. California owned vehicle. Exterior is in great overall condition. The body is straight with only one minor (9” appx) dent-ding near gas tank that is easily pulled. The air conditioning needs to be recharged. Mechanically superior car! No oil leaks or mechanical issue. Car shifts perfectly and drives like a dream with a recent smog, new battery (9/2012) and tires. Front brake pads and rotors done at 135,587 miles (tires at same time). Ride is smooth, comfortable and quiet with straight alignment. The front end is very tight on a dime with nickel change on turns without any unwanted steering play or front end suspension issues. The automatic transmission shifts great. The interior is in good overall condition with the rare, unusual grey checkered seats. Seat heaters works fabulous and like new. The seats are in excellent condition and all the dials/gauges appear to work fine with the exception of speedometer being off on speed calculations. NOTE: This vehicle suffered some smoke damage many years ago, resulting in damage to the paint, sun visors and soft-top (definitely plastic), some spots on interior roof (hard top) are possibly cleanable. As such, this vehicle has a salvage title. There is some normal age wear on interior wood trim that is easily refurbished. There are some side seatbelt accoutrements that need to be re-glued/repaired. Only one minor crack on dash. Replacement Alpine stereo was installed—original not available. Not sure if it works or not. It may just need fuse replacement. Automatic antenna needs to be replaced. This is a bargain for this car, some of which after paint and restoration sell from $15-30k. The parts on this car alone are worth over $4k if parted-out. Can assist in arrangements for shipping to its destination, which will be at sole and complete cost to buyer.
