Vehicle Detail
There is some history with this 1961 single cab, formally owned by Dave Cormack " Kaferdave" of VW Trends then later of Hot VW's. At that time there are articles on Dave's building this high performance 1914cc engine. The engine has a Gene Berg crank, Performance technology heads with 35.5 x 40 values, ported and polished. IRS trans by KCR in Riverside, CA and IRS suspension by old speed ( also in VW trends). Scat Bus shifter, BRM repo's , 165 tires. Custom Type 2 aluminum hub covers spacers (custom made for using BRM's on a Bus). Also this has the dual treasure box doors which are very rare. I bought this from a nice guy named Rob who I believe got it from Dave. At that time it had all the engine, trans and rear end work done and was basically made as a work truck. Rob stated in his ad " this single cab runs really strong and is a great daily driver, I drive to meets in Irwindale from San Diego and it runs strong with a full cargo load". So this is basically a southern California Single Cab. I shipped it here from there to Virginia and slowly took it to the next level. Being a southern California SC there was no rust that I could see so I took it to my body guy and since he owed me on another transaction he did what I would expect to be a $6000 to $8000 paint job. He said he had so many man hours " block sanding" it because he wanted it "just right" I would assume that means there is very little bondo if any. I also liked the deluxe trim on other buses and I know they never had it on the single cabs but since I already was taking it away from stock with the colors I was painting it so I liked it and had it installed. I then had the interior reupholstered to match the new colors. So what you end up with is a daily driver from Southern California that my local VW mechanic says it drives like a " scalded dog" that has a great paint job and interior.
